We all know how important sleep is to the individual, but did you know how much light at nighttime can affect someone with ASD? Read more about the study here!

Mice missing an autism gene groom themselves more than usual and have altered circadian rhythms after nighttime exposure to light.

Autistic people are four times as likely to experience depression over the course of their lives as their neurotypical peers. Did you know that approx. 40% of individuals with ASD experience depression at one point in their lives? And the depression rate for youth under the age of 18 is 7.7%! Parents and pediatricians can be coached to look out for these symptoms, however it can be a difficult task due to communication barriers. Read more here about the importance of early recognition of depressive symptoms, the clinical implications and personal stories from parents here!

Autistic people are four times as likely to experience depression over the course of their lives as their neurotypical peers. Yet researchers know little about why, or how best to help.

So, let’s talk about the different services that we offer at Therapeutic Solutions of South Florida! We provide these services throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties! ☺️✨

-ABA Evaluations: Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) evaluations are completed for each child prior to the beginning of treatment to decide your child’s current level of developmental skills in various domains! Social interaction and their motor abilities are just two of the many things that are evaluated! Evaluations continue through treatment however, so there will be more than one!

-Behavior Therapy: Behavior therapy focuses on observable behaviors and teaching clients new, adaptive behaviors to treat maladaptive behaviors they may be having! Behavior therapy is often used with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), however it can be used with a broad array of disorders, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance abuse. Our practice focuses more often on ABA with clients with ASD.

-Psychotherapy: Psychotherapy refers to the treatment of mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety, by working alongside a mental health professional. This is when you are given the opportunity to learn about yourself, your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. There are many different psychological approaches depending on the client’s needs.

-Physical Therapy: Physical therapy focuses on the preservation, enhancement, or restoration of movement and physical function impaired or threatened by disease, injury, or disability!

-Speech Therapy: Speech therapy is the assessment and treatment of communication issues

-Occupational Therapy: Occupational Therapy helps individuals do the things that they want to do through the use of daily activities!

Feel free to reach out if you’re curious about any of our therapy options!
