Should we allow our children to attend Funerals?
A question posed to me a lot in my career. The answer isn’t always concrete and each parent surely has their own views/opinions. Protection from the emotions that come from death is the biggest reason we wouldn’t allow them to experience a loss of a loved one. Age of the child and their ability to process the emotions should play a factor of course. I heard or read a quote once that stated “ If we accept the beauty of birth then we must accept the beauty of death”. While this is true for all of us, it begs to answer my original question.

The History of the Mausoleum.

The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus was one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It served as the tomb for Mausolus, the ruler of Caria in southwestern Asia Minor. Built between approximately 353 and 351 BCE in his capital city, Halicarnassus, it was a remarkable architectural feat. Mausolus’s sister and widow, Artemisia II, commissioned its construction. The Greek architects Pythius and Satyros designed the monument, while four prominent Greek artists—Scopas, Bryaxis, Leochares, and likely Timotheus—created the sculptures that adorned it. The Mausoleum featured a nearly square shape with a total periphery of 411 feet (125 meters), surrounded by 36 columns. Its top formed a 24-step pyramid, crowned by a four-horse marble chariot. Fragments of its sculptures, including a frieze depicting battling Greeks and Amazons, are preserved in the British Museum. Unfortunately, the Mausoleum was likely destroyed by an earthquake between the 11th and 15th centuries CE, and its stones were reused in local buildings. The term “mausoleum” itself originates from this impressive structure, which has left an indelible mark on history
