In Rome, high school lunches are primarily made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Around 98% of the food is prepared in-house, using produce and products from nearby farms and local producers. Unlike in the U.S., the school system doesn’t partner with large food corporations or fast food chains. There are no contracts for cheap, mass-produced food or sugary drinks like soda. Instead, the focus is on healthy, homemade meals that support local farmers and are better for students' health. This approach promotes fresh, nutritious food, encourages sustainability, and helps students understand the value of local food, all while steering clear of the influence of processed food giants.�
