In 2022, Kenny, a police officer from Idaho, was diagnosed with leukemia and needed a to survive. His match was Banks, a University of Florida lacrosse player who joined the Gift of Life Marrow Registry in 2020. 🧬

“I volunteered at a children’s cancer center, so I know how cancer affects families,” said Banks. “I wanted to help if I could.”

The two met for the first time in 2024 at a pickleball tournament 🏓 hosted by the Miami Beach PD — nearly two years after the transplant that saved Kenny’s life.

When it comes to , age matters.

Younger donors—especially those between 18 and 35—give patients the best chance for a successful transplant and long-term recovery. That’s why this age group is most often called to donate.

If you're eligible, you could be the cure. 💙🧬

Rafi swabbed his cheek to join the Gift of Life Marrow Registry in 2019 at Cornell University. Two years later, he donated his stem cells to help a patient battling Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. 🧬

This , we honor donors like Rafi who strengthen the registry. Patients from Hispanic backgrounds often face more challenges finding a match, which is why representation matters so much. By stepping forward, Rafi gave one patient a chance at a healthier future and inspired others to consider doing the same.

Every swab brings us closer to ensuring that all patients, no matter their background, can find their cure. 🧡
