Covert narcissism

01/07/2026

We live in a time where the moment a woman speaks up for herself, sets a boundary, or refuses to accept disrespect, she’s quickly labeled crazy. Not emotional. Not hurt. Not disappointed. Just dismissed. Because acknowledging her pain would require accountability.

How dare she raise her voice after being ignored for too long. How dare she ask for consistency in a world built on mixed signals. How dare she question behavior that doesn’t sit right in her spirit. How dare she walk away from the bare minimum instead of being grateful for it.

The truth is, she isn’t crazy. She’s aware.

She’s aware of her worth. Aware of the patterns. Aware of how manipulation often hides behind jokes, excuses, and the phrase you’re overthinking. She notices the silence, the sudden shifts in energy, the half truths dressed up as honesty, the charm that covers disrespect. And instead of swallowing it to keep the peace, she chooses to speak. She chooses herself.

But a woman who refuses to be controlled is uncomfortable in this culture. A woman who expects respect is labeled too much. A woman who calls out mistreatment is accused of overreacting. And the quickest way to invalidate her experience is to give her a name that dismisses everything she’s been through.

What gets ignored is how long she stayed quiet. How patient she was. How many times she gave the benefit of the doubt. That frustration, that so called attitude, that silence or sharpness didn’t appear out of nowhere. It came after being unheard for too long.

She’s not unstable. She’s exhausted.

Exhausted from asking for basic communication. Exhausted from being gaslighted for having emotions. Exhausted from being made to feel difficult when all she ever wanted was honesty, effort, and respect.

It’s easier to label her than to admit she was hurt. Easier to call her names than to take responsibility. Easier to dismiss her than to truly listen.

But emotionally mature men understand this. When a woman stands up for herself, that isn’t her being crazy. That’s her healing. That’s her drawing a line. That’s her deciding she will no longer shrink herself to make someone else comfortable.

So no… she’s not crazy.

She’s simply done pretending that mistreatment is love.

I personally do not believe in new years resolutions. However, I love a good reset. I do like making a list of the things I’d like to accomplish in the coming year. I also love making a list of things I’m letting go of and then burning it. There’s something very cathartic about that🥰❤️‍🔥

Although I was diagnosed with CPTSD and depression years ago, I strangely rarely ever experience anxiety. I’ve always associated that to the fact that I don’t leave any emotions unsaid. I am physically unable to sit with upsetting feelings. I just can’t internalize. Let me rephrase that – I CAN internalize, but then I have to resolve and process quickly. I think I actually learned to do that because I can’t tolerate the physical feeling of anxiety. So this was an early developed coping mechanism. It just accidentally happened to be a healthy one.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a talker. I go deep. I’m not much for chitchat. I have a real need to make connection with people.

Something about hearing my own voice with my own ears has always seemed to be calming for me. That is not any different when I’m by myself. I talk to the cat. I talk to inanimate objects and I talk to myself. Not constantly, but if I’m feeling something, I say it. Out loud.

Reading about this experiment was very interesting, and also very affirming. What I have naturally done since childhood is probably the one emotional thing that was always healthy about me that I didn’t have to learn from a therapist. Obviously, I’m mentally and emotionally healthy these days because of a lot of work in therapy and a bit of meds.

Almost all of my friends experience anxiety on a somewhat regular basis. I would suggest to you try this. I always suggest therapy - ad nauseum - because I honestly think everyone needs it just to work through the internalized emotions of life. If there’s nothing happening at the moment to cause the anxiety, maybe it would be helpful to go back through emotions you might’ve internalized in other times. EMDR is super helpful for that, alongside of talk therapy…art therapy, music, horse therapy, yoga, getting out in nature, walking barefoot on the Earth… There are as many different ways to process feelings as there are people.

If you’re suffering from anxiety, try talking yourself through it. It’s worth a try. Love y’all🥰🫶🏻✨
