🔥 Conflict is natural, but how you handle it defines the relationship.
Do you attack or avoid? Do you blame or take ownership?

In therapy, couples learn how to express anger constructively. It means asserting oneself by speaking up but not tearing the other down with name-calling, the silent treatment, or rehashing old wounds.

Instead, it’s about using “I” statements, setting boundaries, and giving each other space.

Disagreements don’t destroy love, disrespect and emotional disengagement can be very detrimental and damaging!

🌿 Healthy Conflict Is a Sign of a Growing Relationship 🌿
from the desk of Dr. Andrea Corn | www.drandreacorn.com

Every couple disagrees—but not every couple knows how to grow through conflict.

In my work, I’ve seen time and time again: it’s not about avoiding arguments, but about how you navigate them together.

🔹 Do you listen with curiosity or react with blame?
🔹 Do you seek to understand or race to be “right”?
🔹 Do you prioritize connection over control?

💡 The healthiest couples are the ones who make space for honest emotions, take breaks when needed, and come back with love, not ego.

Conflict is not the enemy. Poor communication is.
You can disagree and still feel deeply loved.
You can speak your truth without wounding theirs.

Let your next disagreement be a doorway into deeper understanding.

💬 One loving conversation at a time.

📚 Between standardized tests, extracurriculars, and future planning, today’s youth are under enormous academic pressure. This stress can lead to anxiety, sleep issues, low self-esteem, and even burnout at a young age.

Therapy helps teens reframe their worth beyond grades and achievements, prioritize self-care, and develop time management and stress-reduction techniques.

Parents can help too by encouraging effort over perfection and reminding teens that rest is productive. Mental health is a foundation for success, not a distraction from it. 🙂

Effective therapy starts with connection!

Teens are often reluctant to open up, especially if they’ve been judged, misunderstood, or dismissed. That’s why building trust is the first—and most important—step.

The goal isn’t to “fix” them—it’s to empower them. Once trust is built, therapy can help teens explore emotions, improve relationships, and develop problem-solving skills that last a lifetime! 🤗

Dr. Andrea Corn Tip of The Week: Signs Your Child Might Need Support!

🔍 Parents often wonder, “Is this normal behavior or something more?”

Here are some signs that may indicate your child is struggling emotionally:

– Loss of interest in activities they once enjoyed
– Withdrawal from friends or family
– Changes in eating or sleeping habits
– Heightened irritability or sensitivity
– A decline in academic performance

These signs aren’t always cause for alarm, but therapy can be a lifeline when they persist or intensify. Early support can help youth navigate challenges before they grow into larger issues!

Friday Advice: If you are a parent and have asked yourself this question....

🧠 “Why is my teen acting like this?”

Here is food for thought: adolescence is a time of rapid brain development, identity formation, and emotional intensity. What may look like moodiness, defiance, or distance is often a teen's way of grappling with major life transitions and hormonal shifts. Their brains are still learning how to regulate emotions, assess risk, and make long-term decisions.
