Nobody prepares you for the day your child treats you like a stranger.

One day you’re the person who held them when they were sick. The person who stayed up all night when they had a fever.
The one who paid the bills, packed the lunches, drove the carpools, and cheered from the sidelines.

And then one day…
You become the villain in a story you didn’t even know was being written.

No conversation.
No chance to repair.
Just distance.

People love to say, “Adult children don’t cut off parents for no reason.”

Maybe.

But what they don’t talk about is how family narratives get rewritten over time.

How hurt gets filtered through other voices.

How one story becomes the only story.

And suddenly the person who raised them
is reduced to a character in someone else’s version of the past.

Estrangement is a strange kind of grief. The person you love is still alive… but you’re erased from their world.

You miss birthdays you would have planned for months.

You miss milestones you once dreamed about.

You miss grandchildren you may never meet.

And the hardest part?

You still love them.
Even after the silence.
Even after the blame.
Even after the door closed.

Some of us are just parents learning how to live with a heartbreak the world doesn’t acknowledge.

If you’re carrying this kind of grief…
You’re not alone.

✨ The past is no longer happening, yet the mind can replay old events again and again through memory. Pain returns not from the event itself but from the way it is remembered, analyzed, or regretted long after it is over.

The future has not arrived either, but imagination can fill it with fear, doubt, or worry. Much of the suffering people feel comes from thoughts about what was or what might be, rather than what is actually happening in the present moment. ✨

I used to think fear had to go away before I could move forward.

Now I’m learning that sometimes it stays and you take the step anyway.

Not dangerous fear. Just the kind that shows up when you’re stepping outside what’s comfortable.

And sometimes that’s exactly where growth lives.
