Does work? 🧐

Schroth is amazing - I cannot emphasize that enough. Schroth has changed not only the lives of my patients; it has elevated + transformed my life, my understanding of and approach to human movement. 🧠

Many factors that play into outcomes, especially precision of exercises, patient compliance, and therapist experience. Having been a therapist for 26 years, treating + teaching Schroth day in + day out for 11 yrs, I’ve learned 👉🏻Schroth only works if you do! 👈🏻

So happy for and proud of this teen! Thank you for your dedication and fun, and to your family for their support and permission to share. Your work and out ones inspire all of us!! WAY TO GO! 🎉💪🏼💙

If you’re a physio curious to learn more, join me for my upcoming P1 SSOL Schroth Certification Course December 2-7! If you’re P1 or L1 Certified, come to P2 which is all about advancing, refining and perfecting your skills! P2 is AMAZING! Class is super limited in size for hands-on learning. DM me for more details!

🧠 Semihanging is one of the most common exercises patients learn early on in their program. It’s fantastic for helping us feel the spine lengthen, and important that the right muscles activate in the right order if we are going to re-educate the neuromuscular system for the long run and be effective in reshaping the rib cage, spine and torso.

💙 Awareness is the first step to change! Becoming aware of our old patterns helps us see and understand how we can do things to support ourselves even better! Mirrors are key for providing objective feedback (not judgement) on our alignment 3D.

👍🏼 Nothing is ever “perfect.” We want to find our best possible 3D alignment FIRST as we prepare to move into the “pose”. (It’s similar Utkatasana in yoga!) Developing an awareness of and appreciation for optimizing alignment without getting caught up in or stifled by alignment usually offers a healthy balance!

⚠️ Semihanging is always better ACTIVE THAN PASSIVE! And, semihanging isn’t for everyone! Good news is there are great options to modify if you (or your patient) present with certain “modifiers.” Always check with your certified Schroth therapist if this exercise is right for you!

Our Week of WOW continues with adults!

Schroth is not a breathing method, but establishing harmonious physiologic breathing is foundational if our ultimate goal is to reshape the rib cage, torso and spine.

This patient is incredibly dedicated to his daily, exercise, so introducing him to Schroth wasn’t a challenge, but shifting his breathing habit from mouth breathing to nasal breathing was serious work! Once he was able to that, everything became easier.

Notice especially the difference in his sternocleidomastoid muscle!

Huge thanks to this patient for his dedication, his curiosity to always learn, and his permission to share these pics!

Our Week of WOW continues with the mature adult!

Schroth is not a breathing method, but the breath is foundational to all we do. Establishing harmonious physiologic breathing patterns is paramount, as the diaphragm must be able to relax into order to reshape the rib cage and spine.

The diaphragm often gets stuck from@lots of things, and a habit of mouth breathing is a common culprit.
This incredibly strong, disciplined and smart gentleman worked 9 months to be able to breathe through his nose.. and that helped make all the difference!

Notice especially the difference in the sternocleidomastoid muscle - when it doesn’t have to be the antigravity muscle, and when the richest and ribs can move, the SCM, upper traps and diaphragm don’t have to do all the work!

Huge thanks to this patient for his incredible work, his great questions, and his permission to share these photos.

Schroth only works if you do! 💪🏼💙
Welcome to our Week of WOW, Day 5!

Schroth is not just for teens! Schroth, and the principles of Schroth apply to all humans, and can be beautifully integrated into all of life and other fitness activities like Yoga & Pilates.

This beautiful, strong and super smart mature adult came to us with back pain that wouldn’t quit. Once she understood the mechanics of her curve (especially addressing the sagittal plane!) she regained control over her spine - and her life 💙🎉

Looking through these pictures shows what we as humans can do in the conservative management of scoliosis when we understand the how and why 🧠

So much love for this patient and the joy she brings. Thank you for your hard work and permission to share what’s possible! XO

Schroth Only Works If You Do 💙💪🏼
Week of WOW Day 4!

Schroth is truly something that must be experienced to understand and integrate in our mind, in our heart, and in our tissues from the inside out. Appreciating this work requires consistency and dedication over time.

We are all amateurs before we can become masters.

We all start from the same place, and with each experience, each lesson, we build on our knowledge, our understanding, and our capacity to grow. Adhikara is an exquisite term in Sanskrit meaning “preparation” - as we build on our knowledge and understanding of a particular area, we prepare ourselves to see + experience what others cannot. When we do the raw, hard, organic work, we ultimately create tremendous freedom in our minds, our bodies, + our lives.

The goal of Schroth is to stabilize curves + keep them from progressing, whether that applies to a growing teen or to an adult who may be having to fight harder against gravity. We look at things both clinically (“in the skin”) + radiologically (what’s happening beneath the skin).

Our goal is to improve not only the 3D orientation of the spine, rib cage and torso, but stabilize + improve (when possible) the radiological qualities of posture.

When we look at X-rays, there is so much more than just Cobb to consider! Looking at:

• How close the apex is from central sacral line (CSL)
• Any reduction/improvement in vertebral rotation
• Any increase space b/t vertebrae (less compression)
• Trunk balance relative to the CSL
• Pelvic shift towards midline

👆🏻are a few qualities to consider when looking at X-rays to see if the curve is working towards greater stability.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼to this young lady whose forward thinking attitude, steady approach, + sense of fun inspire us all. Because she shows up for herself, she’s the one that wins. That’s what it’s all about + that is exactly how we do it! Thank you to this incredible teen for her dedication, her commitment, her sense of humor, and her permission to share her outstanding work!

Welcome to our Week of W🥳W Day 3!

When less is more 💙

When patients come for a full week intensive, there is always so much to cover, to establish, to ensure. Just as essential to establishing a foundational home program is ensuring the patient has established foundation in their breath.

Anyone - scoliosis or no scoliosis - can do all they exercise they want, but if the diaphragm, rib cage, intercostals or other respiratory tissues are stuck, we’ll continue to be stuck in our old patterns, too. Frustration frees up when the diaphragm is free, fluid, stable and resilient.

These photos truly celebrate the alchemy of Schroth, the importance of our breath, and the unwavering desire and dedication from the patient.

As I shared with this beautiful, strong and brilliant teen, “Schroth only works if you do!” 🤩

Thank you to this incredible teen and her mom for making the trip to FL, for your dedication and fun, and bringing the best coffee!!! ☕️🤎

So proud of, and so happy for you!! Keep up the good work! You’ve got this!!! 🎉💪🏼💙

Week of WOW Day 2!

When we begin to control our breathing patterns, rather than our breathing patterns controlling us, we truly become masters of our own destiny.

This young teen showed her spine (and knees) who’s boss when she learned how to align herself 3D as well as the best possible exercises for her specific anatomy… which meant starting with the diaphragm.

None of us are built the same, and exercise is not a one size fits all approach… but there are specific principles that are universal. Often this requires starting with the BREATH as the foundation to optimize the range and strength of the diaphragm. Our diaphragm is not only our primary respiratory muscle, it’s also our primary core stabilizer.

Because this teen is as savvy as she is fun, she learns quickly, and was able to make some very impressive changes in an impressive amount of time. The hardest work is actually done, and now her work is to continue the stability - dynamic and static - as she grows.

She is so fun, so bright, and so strong. Massive thanks to this soul for her dedication, commitment, and permission to share these pics. Please give her big love 💙 and double tap on which comparison photo you love most! (You must swipe to the X-ray of knees!!!!! 🤯)

Welcome to our week of WOW!

With graduations this time of year 🎓, we love to celebrate the beautiful people that make our work meaningful and fun!

As the body comes into more 3D balance, not only do aesthetics change, but strength, flexibility, height, energy and pain levels improve, too. While we are so happy to see the physical changes in these 4 photos, what we’re happiest about is the massive reduction in pain and equivalent increase in return to traveling, life and sport 🏃🏽‍♀️🧘🏻‍♀️, and that surgery is no longer anywhere on her radar! 💪🏼

The yoga tradition teaches that tapas (dedication) leads to tejas (the full illumination of our power, splendor and brilliance). Massive thanks to this incredible patient for her dedication, her fun, her wisdom, and her permission to share her photos.

Double tap on your favorite comparison pic! Pls give her a 🤍👏🏼 for a job very well done!
