It is with heavy hearts that the ABCA announces the passing of Lifetime member Rev. Dr. Romanuel Washington.
Dr. Washington was truly an icon of the profession. As the first black chiropractor to practice in the state of Texas, Dr. Washington practiced there for nearly 75 years, much of which alongside his daughter, Dr. Madeline Washington.
Dr. Washington was the last remaining founding members of the ABCA and his dedication never waived. In a 2022 interview with the Texas Chiropractic Association, he stated "The importance of the ABCA is to spread awareness of the benefits of Chiropractic care in the African American community as in many cases those in our communities felt that Chiropractic care was a White man’s treatment."
The Washington family asks for prayers for their patriarch and to not mourn his death, but rejoice his life! "He has shown us all what true love is, but most importantly that nothing is impossible with God on your side!"
