This month is ME/CFS, and since May is Awareness Month, we are starting here.

ME/CFS isn’t just being tired.

It is a body that does not recover the way it is supposed to.

Most people are buying supplements the same way they buy everything else online… and assuming the quality is the same.

From a public health standpoint, that is a risky assumption.

Supplements are sensitive to temperature and storage conditions. Once they move through third-party marketplaces, those variables are not always controlled.

So when something doesn’t seem to work, it may not be the supplement itself. It may be the condition it arrived in.

A lot of what we call “unplugging” is just… switching outlets.

From a public health standpoint, that matters more than people realize.
Your nervous system does not care that you left work emails and opened Instagram. It still logs it as input. Different flavor, same load. So while it feels like a break, your system is still processing, still filtering, still working in the background.

I see this pattern often, and I am not above it. As an autism mom, there are plenty of moments where “unplugging” quietly turns into scrolling because stillness actually asks more of me than stimulation does. That is not a discipline issue. That is a capacity conversation.

The problem is, ease and restoration are not the same thing. If input never actually decreases, the system never resets. It just gets more efficient at carrying the load… and eventually that shows up as patterns people cannot seem to break.

Not because they are failing. Because their body is still trying to finish something that never got space to resolve.

Awareness is where that shifts. Not forcing. Not fixing. Just noticing when your “rest” is actually still work.

Most “refreshing” drinks are doing the exact opposite.
