It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of retired Boise Firefighter Thad Broadhead, who died peacefully on Saturday morning after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Thad was born on June 30, 1967, in Moscow, Idaho, and spent his early years in Texas and Utah, growing up primarily in Cottonwood, Utah. He earned a degree in psychology from the University of Washington before answering the call to serve.

Thad joined the Boise Fire Department on July 1, 1996. He was promoted to Senior Firefighter in 2000 and retired in December 2021 after 25 years of dedicated service. Known for his steady presence, strength, and an ever-present smile, Thad was a dependable colleague and a beloved friend. His calm demeanor and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to work beside him. Thad deeply valued his time with the Boise Fire Department and the lifelong friendships he forged—especially with Captain Rob Spencer and Mike Able. Before his passing, Thad shared these powerful words:

“I hope that my death from pancreatic cancer, in the line of duty, will shed light on the difficulties many on the fire department will face and the risks they are willingly facing in service to the community.”

Thad, your courage, your heart, and your legacy will never be forgotten.Thank you for your service. Rest easy, brother.

Our hearts are with Thad’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We send them our deepest condolences and support.

We are praying for our firefighters and wild land crews working them and ask that everyone be mindful of instructions given by ALL first responders in these situations. We keep praying for rain to help out these hardworking men and women. You are appreciated beyond measure for your efforts and sacrifice for our homes and families. 🇺🇸🚓🚒🚑

***Just a drill*** Be aware!

**DRILL ONLY **

Tomorrow Boise Fire and other partner agencies will conduct wildfire emergency evacuation drills for residents of Warm Springs Mesa from noon to around 3 pm. During the drill, participants that signed up will practice their household evacuation plans, at the same time first responders are practicing their wildfire evacuation procedures.

The drill will serve as a valuable opportunity for residents and emergency responders to practice wildfire evacuation procedures and test communication systems through Code Red. It is part of ongoing efforts to enhance emergency preparedness specific to wildfires in high-risk areas throughout the city.

Participating households have been provided detailed information about the exercise. Community members may notice additional traffic and a large first responder presence in the area of Warm Springs Mesa as the evacuation drill gets underway. The drill is scheduled from noon to 3 pm.

We encourage all members of Ada County to sign up for Code Red alerts here: https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/BF01DC4DD213?isMobile=true. This system will be used in case of a real emergency.

This coming Wednesday, we will be having the last of our Spring 2024 Mental Health Seminars. The focus here will be stress and sleep solutions. With everything that our emergency responder community has experienced over the past couple of weeks, we invite as many who want to attend to reserve their spot. Please, reach out to us is there is a need.
We are anticipating a fall series of seminars. As soon as our lineup is verified, we will let everyone know.

Hello First Responder Family! In December 2013, ERHC moved into our new Health Center on Emerald Street. Dr. Hilvers has some great memories of he and Jenna unpacking supply boxes for weeks!!. To celebrate, ERHC will host the Double Decker Espresso Bus on Thursday, December 21st from 8 AM – 1 PM. We would love to have anyone and everyone of our first responders and their families drop by, just to say hi and get some fresh coffee and pastries!
We are here because of you. You have made it possible for us to grow and have made us a part of your lives. We want to see as many faces today as possible, so drop by! Please share with the rest of our ERHC first responder family that may not have heard yet.
Thank you for 10 WONDERFUL years! Here's looking at 10 plus many more.
