It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of retired Boise Firefighter Thad Broadhead, who died peacefully on Saturday morning after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Thad was born on June 30, 1967, in Moscow, Idaho, and spent his early years in Texas and Utah, growing up primarily in Cottonwood, Utah. He earned a degree in psychology from the University of Washington before answering the call to serve.
Thad joined the Boise Fire Department on July 1, 1996. He was promoted to Senior Firefighter in 2000 and retired in December 2021 after 25 years of dedicated service. Known for his steady presence, strength, and an ever-present smile, Thad was a dependable colleague and a beloved friend. His calm demeanor and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to work beside him. Thad deeply valued his time with the Boise Fire Department and the lifelong friendships he forged—especially with Captain Rob Spencer and Mike Able. Before his passing, Thad shared these powerful words:
“I hope that my death from pancreatic cancer, in the line of duty, will shed light on the difficulties many on the fire department will face and the risks they are willingly facing in service to the community.”
Thad, your courage, your heart, and your legacy will never be forgotten.Thank you for your service. Rest easy, brother.
Our hearts are with Thad’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We send them our deepest condolences and support.
