🦋 Happy Nurses Week 🦋

At Auburn Crest Hospice, we want to take a moment to honor and celebrate our incredible nurses—your compassion, clinical skill, patience, and presence make a profound difference in the lives of every patient and family you serve.

You are the steady hands and comforting hearts during life’s most tender moments. You bring dignity, comfort, and peace when it matters most, and we are truly grateful for the care you provide every single day.

We also want to extend our appreciation to the nurses throughout our community—in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, clinics, and home health—who work alongside us in caring for our elderly population. Your dedication, time, and expertise do not go unnoticed. Together, we make a difference that no single person or organization could make alone.

Thank you for showing up with skill, strength, and heart.

We see you. We appreciate you. We are better because of you. 🦋

🚨 Myth vs. Fact: Do You Have to Have a DNR to Be on Hospice?

Myth: You must have a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) to receive hospice care.Fact: No, a DNR is not required to elect hospice.

Hospice is about honoring a patient’s goals, values, and choices. Some patients on hospice choose to have a DNR in place, while others may not. A DNR simply means that if a person’s heart stops or they stop breathing, CPR would not be attempted. It does not mean stopping all care.

Hospice continues to provide compassionate care focused on comfort, dignity, symptom management, and quality of life—regardless of whether a patient has a DNR.

Choosing a DNR is a personal decision, and conversations about code status are an important part of advance care planning. Our role is to educate, support, and honor what matters most to each patient and family.

At Auburn Crest Hospice, we believe informed choices matter. Have questions about hospice or advance directives? We’re here to help. 🦋

🦋 March is Social Work Month, and we want to take a moment to recognize and thank the incredible social workers we have the privilege of working with every day.

🦋 In hospice care, social workers are truly the heart of the team. They provide emotional support, help families navigate difficult decisions, connect patients with resources, and advocate for dignity and comfort during some of life’s most challenging moments.

🦋 We are especially grateful for the dedicated social workers in the skilled nursing facilities and hospitals we partner with. Your compassion, collaboration, and commitment make such a difference for the patients and families we serve together.

🦋 At Auburn Crest Hospice, we deeply appreciate the teamwork and trust we share with you. Thank you for the care, empathy, and professionalism you bring to your work every single day.

💙 Happy Social Work Month to all the amazing social workers in our community!🦋

🇺🇸 As part of the Treasure Valley Hospice Coalition, we had a great time serving veterans at the Vietnam Veterans Recognition event on Saturday at the Warhawk Air Museum! 🇺🇸

It was an honor to spend the day recognizing and connecting with those who served our country. As a Level 5 We Honor Veterans partner, Auburn Crest Hospice 🦋 is deeply committed to honoring and caring for our nation’s veterans and their families.

Our new coalition banner and tablecloth made their debut and looked awesome! 😎

The team at Auburn Crest Hospice volunteered and helped lead the event. We’re proud to stand alongside the Treasure Valley Hospice Coalition and other community partners who share the mission of honoring and serving our local veterans. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🦋 🦋 🦋 💙 💙

“Why are we not giving mom food or water?”

This is one of the most common and emotional questions families ask during hospice care.

From a hospice perspective, when someone is nearing the end of life, the body naturally begins to slow down and eventually shut down. As this happens, the body no longer processes food and fluids the same way it once did. Eating and drinking can actually become uncomfortable and may cause nausea, choking, or fluid buildup.

One of the most important things we explain to families is this:

Your loved one is not dying because they stopped eating and drinking.
They stop eating and drinking because their body is preparing for the end of life.

In hospice, our focus is always comfort, dignity, and peace. Instead of forcing food or fluids, we provide supportive care such as mouth care, lip moisture, repositioning for comfort, and medications when needed.

These moments can be incredibly difficult for families. Our team walks beside you every step of the way—answering questions, providing education, and ensuring your loved one is comfortable and cared for with compassion.

If you ever have questions about hospice care or end-of-life changes, Auburn Crest Hospice is here to help.

🦋 Hospice Focuses on Comfort

The goal of hospice is simple:

Comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

Hospice teams work hard to manage symptoms such as:
• Pain
• Shortness of breath
• Anxiety
• Restlessness

When symptoms are controlled, patients can focus on what matters most—time with loved ones.

🦋 Hospice Is Covered More Often Than People Think

Many families delay hospice because they worry about cost.

The reality is that Medicare, Medicaid, and many private insurance plans cover hospice care for patients with a life-limiting illness at 💯 %.

Hospice services can include:
• Nursing visits
• Medical equipment and medications related to the diagnosis
• CNA support
• Social work and spiritual care
• 24/7 on-call support

Hospice is designed to remove stress so families can focus on what matters most — time together.
