It’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month!

It’s our 3rd year at Gem State Dermatology raising money and awareness for children fighting against cancer. This year, we are staying local again, and raising money for The BumbleBee Foundation! This foundation raises money to help families who are affected specifically by childhood cancer.

It’s our last Friday, and our last day in May. Our last fact this month is a tough one. It’s hard to imagine that a mole could have the capability of taking someone’s life. And though it’s rare, it’s reality. It’s why skin checks are so important, why sun protection is so important. Because it’s just a mole, until it isn’t.

Every year, we participate in Run For Dunn, to help remember Amy Dunn, who lost her life to Melanoma. Sunday, we will be running for her, for her cause, and for everyone who has ever been affected by Melanoma.

We’ll see you there. 🎗️

We’re heading into the holiday weekend! ☀️ And with temperatures rising, we want to remind you of the importance of taking care of your skin and sun protection!

Melanoma diagnoses have been on the rise. Early detection is key to preventing Melanoma from becoming invasive. Regular skin checks, self skin checks, and noticing changes in any current or new moles can drastically change the outcome of a melanoma diagnosis.

Remember the ABCDE’s! Anything that is Asymmetric, has uneven Borders, is changing in or has multiple Colors, is bigger in Diameter than a pencil eraser, or is Evolving (changing, growing) is cause for concern! Peace of mind is priceless!

Our Medical Assistant, Chloe, was accepted into a 10 week summer nursing internship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota! We’re sending her off with warm wishes and the biggest congratulations! But we’re already ready for her to be back!

It’s finally Friday! Melanoma Fact Friday that is! 😎

Indoor tanning substantially increases your risk of developing skin cancer, and that risk continues to increase with every subsequent use!
