Why Torque Body Shop? What is your DRIVING FORCE?

I’m new to Idaho and quite simply Torque is the best spin studio in the treasure valley. I really enjoyed being here from Day 1 for the Torque Grand Opening and getting to know the other riders and staff over time. I love being surrounded by such friendly and active individuals pushing themselves to be their best!

Has cycling or yoga improved your life outside of the studio?

My indoor cycling journey started 12 years ago with rehabbing an ankle injury and going through a rough time in my life. I wanted to find a low impact activity that got my heart racing and is full of positive energy and good vibes. I’ve continued to make spin a part of my weekly routine even when life is busy or i’m traveling on vacation or for work. I also get to stay current with some great remixes and good beats!

What is a memorable moment in class?

Top 3 Moments in Class: Riding on Podium with Izzy, Kygo vs Avicii Ride, and anytime we do “Body Roll”

What advice would you give to a newcomer?

Its always great seeing dudes trying spin for the 1st time. Invite your brother, boyfriend, husband, or dad and continue to show up. David Beckham, Jake Gyllenhall and Bradley Cooper are all guys who go to spin class, so it works for them. Also, buy some good spin shoes so that you are motivated to get your Return on Investment.

Tell us about yourself and what motivates you to come to classes?

I’m a new Dad to a 6-month old and my wife is much younger than me so I have to stay healthy and strong so that I can have a fruitful life with my family. Before our daughter was born we would do spin class together, but now we have to take turns doing baby shifts, LOL! We live in Star so we make a day of it when we come to spin class and like to hit up the Boise Farmer’s Market, walk the greenbelt, or grab food and drinks at Percy or Wylder.

In our FLOW & RESTORE classes we place an emphasis on multiple different breathing techniques in addition to our postures/asanas.

Diaphragmatic breathing, also known as abdominal or belly breathing, is a deep breathing technique that involves engaging the diaphragm, a large dome-shaped muscle located at the base of the lungs. This technique promotes full oxygen exchange and can have a calming effect on the body.

How to Perform Diaphragmatic Breathing:

Sit or lie down in a comfortable position with your knees bent and your head supported.

Place one hand on your upper chest and the other on your abdomen, just below your ribcage.

Breathe in slowly through your nose, allowing your abdomen to rise as your diaphragm moves downward. Your chest should remain relatively still.

Exhale slowly through your mouth, allowing your abdomen to fall as your diaphragm moves upward, pushing air out of your lungs. Again, your chest should remain relatively still.

Continue this pattern of deep breathing for several minutes, focusing on the rise and fall of your abdomen.

Benefits of Diaphragmatic Breathing:

Activates the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing the body’s stress response.

Enhances the oxygen exchange in the lungs, providing more oxygen to the body’s cells and improving overall energy levels.

Helps to reduce blood pressure by promoting relaxation and reducing the heart’s workload.

Engages the diaphragm and other core muscles, helping to improve core stability and posture.

Promotes better focus and mental clarity by increasing oxygen flow to the brain.

Stimulates the vagus nerve, which can help improve digestive function and reduce symptoms of indigestion.

The Torque Body Shop crew hit this past weekend to get some downhill MTB in! We had SO much fun!

What should I eat before I come to an early AM class?

We get this question often and here is what we suggest!

Create a balanced (and small) protein shake to get some energy, balance glucose levels, get some salt and fuel your body.

✨1/4 cup coconut milk

✨1/2 cup fresh orange juice

✨1/2 tsp salt

✨1 scoop of protein powder of your choice, approximately 10 grams of protein (I use Orgain vanilla plant protein)

Blend them up (or even use a milk frother for a quick mix)!

This is quick and easy to make, easy to digest and quick to give you energy!
