Blight-resistant potatoes have been bred using safe and traditional plant breeding from Peruvian potatoes. Richard Halleron, agricultural chemist, writes: "I believe this news must rank as one of the most important breakthroughs within the field of agricultural science in living memory. What makes this development all the more memorable is the fact that it has been achieved without the use of genetic modification (GM) and/or genomic editing... For the record, one third of the world’s population still rely on potatoes as the main source of energy in their diets... This plant breeding breakthrough also flies in the face of the likes of Monsanto, which seems to think that GM is the answer to all our problems. In truth, I am fast coming to the conclusion that GM and all other related sciences could be creating long-term issues for humanity – many, or all of which, could prove very difficult to step back from."
We don't need GMOs to feed the world. The biotech industry continues to use risky genetic engineering technology, patenting their unnecessary abominations, and then making boatloads of money while putting our health, our environment and all living things at risk. Let's take that glass of biotech synthetic GMO Kool-Aid and make them drink it. We don't need it, and we don't want it. Avoid GMOs as best you can. Look for biodynamic, organic, and for high-risk foods such as corn, soy, canola, sugar, cottonseed oil and potatoes, look for both the organic label and the Non-GMO Project Verified butterfly logo together to be sure to avoid GMOs. Why is it necessary to have both of those labels together when organic is allowed to label "Organic is Non-GMO and more"? This is because even though organics can't be grown from GMO seeds, the organic industry is not required to test for GMO contamination. As a result, very little testing is done. Contamination can occur in many ways... from pollen drift, during shipping, storage, packing, etc. And yes, in case you weren't aware, potatoes are high-risk for being GMO if they're not organic and Non-GMO Project Verified. The agrichemical industry basically took over the potato industry in the USA and nearly all potatoes grown here are now GMO. Do your best. Be well! (And PS.... canola and cottonseed oil are not healthy options, even if they're Non-GMO)
