How do we only have 12 days to go!? Nikolas Frias, our recipient in 2014, had recently been diagnosed with leukemia on the day of his tournament. His family was brought in a limo to the tournament but all the gifts inside were left untouched. He thought they were left there by a previous user of the limo instead of for him! Nikolas and his brother got a special golfing lesson with one of our teams and he helped them sink a birdie putt. The roar of cheers following could be heard across the entire course! We hope wherever Nikolas is today that he is happy and healthy!

T-minus 13 days! Hunter Buffi was only five years old when he was our recipient in 2013. Highlights from Hunter’s tournament included a lengthy massage, many high fives and a MASSIVE amount of tractor related toys. This boy loved his tractors!

Hunter has been cancer free since the end of 2013, is over 6 ft tall (WHAT?!), turning 18, and plans to enter job corps soon with a future career goal of welding! He has progressed to the point that he no longer even needs to see his pediatric oncologist!

Hunter and his mom, Shawni, attend our tournament often and are such a huge support to our newest recipient each year. We can’t wait to see what Hunter will achieve in the next year!

14 days to go! Today we celebrate Lilyan, recipient in 2012! Golfers remember a small, sweet girl who handed out pastel colored bracelets that read “Live and Love…Lilyan”. She had a huge entourage of family members supporting her on her big day!
Lilyan has been cancer free for over ten years, is a junior in High School, and is madly adored, most of all by her 9 year old brother and her sweet puppies. She can’t wait for the day that she has her own place so a kitty can adore her too! She is on track to graduate High School as a Certified Pharmacy Technician and plans to head to college for a career in radiology.
Today we are reminded to love and live every day to the fullest thanks to Lilyan! It is such a joy to watch her and her family continue to thrive!

Only 15 days left before The 40th Friendship Scramble. Gage Driskell, 2011 recipient, holds the award for classiest arrival to the golf course! He and his father enjoyed a special ride offered by Air St. Luke’s that took them over the BSU stadium (Gage LOVED the Broncos) before landing them directly on the golf course! Gage had an incredible sense of style and insisted on wearing dress pants and a button down to his tournament. Perhaps the most touching part of the day was watching Gage’s father dote on his son. It was clear to everyone the love these two shared. Gage is deeply missed, at his funeral his entire town came together and participated in a motorcycle tour of honor for him.

16 days to go! Today we’d like to remember Bodhi Moore, our recipient in 2010. Bodhi was amazing and charmed every single golfer out on the course during his big day. When asked how old he was Bodhi held up a hand covered in a very large golfing glove excitedly exclaiming he was five years old. Bodhi was interviewed by KTVB and extatic that all the people out on the golf course were there just for him. Bodhi’s parents, Meleah and Cahn, used the money from the tournament to take “Bodhi adventures” while they were in California for treatments. They make sure their son, Jamis, born after Bodhi’s death, knows all about his amazing, loving big brother who is watching over their family!

17 days to go! Jayden Bennett, 2009 recipient, was a brave and strong young man who had such a strong will to live! His favorite expression was “give me some bones” when asking for a fist-bump. He adored Spider-Man and wanted to share his incredible sense of humor with everyone! Boni, his mother, and everyone who knew Jayden misses him every single day.

18 days until The Friendship Scramble! Destynee Dougherty, 2008 recipient, lives every moment with an exclamation point! She is a bubbly and engaging person who not only was a recipient but also came back to receive a grant to help her finish out her college education. Destynee graduated in 2014 from BSU with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. Destynee told us when she graduated that she “couldn’t have done it without you” and “the thoughts of the kindness given to me by The Friendship Scramble still bring a smile to my face.” We hope that wherever life has taken Destynee she is still sharing her overflowing love of life with everyone around her!

Only 19 days to go! Today we recognize Christopher Christy, recipient in 2007. Christopher, at the time of our tournament, was struggling to get the world to understand him. His trach-tube kept him from verbally communicating but he was picking up signing at a quick rate! It was adorably watching him try to convince his mother to have a bite of her hamburger (which was not on his approved food list!). One very special part of Christopher’s day was the special fly-by the Air Force performed as Christopher’s father was working at the Air Force base at Gowen Field. We hope wherever Christopher is today that he is happy and healthy and enjoying hamburgers!

20 days! Today we remember and miss Tausha Hunter, our recipient in 2006. Tausha was lovely and looked forward to getting better so she could cheer for her school again! She was closely connected to her family (5 sisters and 2 brothers!) and was so grateful for the time she got to spend with them. Tausha passed only a week after she was our recipient. We consider ourselves very lucky to have been able to spend some of those last precious hours with her.

We are down to 21 days! Today we remember Chelsie Cayford, recipient in 2005. Chelsie was a girl who did not enjoy the spotlight. However she found particular joy in speaking with some retired military golfers about the Navy on the day of her tournament. While Chelsea was concerned about how her cancer diagnosis was impacting her learning, she went on to not only graduate from high school but earned a Political Science degree from U of I in 2013! Chelsea regularly kept us informed of her successes until she passed in 2017. She is deeply missed and today we remember her and her tenacious spirit.

22 days to go! Christopher Urry, 2004 recipient, is unforgettable. During the day of his tournament he insisted his mother be a part of every golf ride and continually requested stops so he could pick flowers for her. While treatment temporarily hindered his movement, he lost no time in enjoying the backyard (complete with grass!) that was installed by a tournament volunteer. He overheard that all Christopher really wanted was a backyard with grass and made that happen for him! This backyard actually helped Christopher’s mother, Michelle, when she was working to help her son with rehab. We are so glad this backyard brought so much joy to Christopher and his family.

Only 23 days to go!! Grant Downs, recipient in 2003, is one of those people who gains the greatest joy from making people laugh! When he was our recipient he was an avid knife collector and ranked playing his gameboy high on his list of favorite activities. Grant was thrilled after our tournament to completely remodel his bedroom exactly to his liking. We hope Grant and his family are doing well wherever they are in life!
