✨exciting news…for once. also, happy may.

in honor of my beautiful grandma, who died a little over a year ago, i am overjoyed to announce that i am opening a nonprofit organization with my son, founded on love, compassion, unity, and community - geraniums for gigi. her favorite flower, and the premise being that we perpetuate and expand the “be kind” movement that she helped me create, by way of flowers, but also anonymous random acts of kindness throughout the year, across the country.

she and my grandpa introduced me to social work nearly 30 years ago, and it was the two of them who funded and ensured my way through graduate school and beyond. i tried to repay them with money so many times, and they never accepted it. so now i can use that to propel this. it’s absolutely everything she would have wanted, and i am so honored to keep her legacy alive in this manner.

✨happy birthday to our favorite “be kind” therapist. you are an amazing social worker, counselor, teacher, advocate, friend, mother, and human. your kindness movement has inspired many all over the globe. even though this birthday is accompanied by a monumental loss, please remember how loved you are. help us celebrate this beautiful soul today, friends and followers. and as always, bee kind.

I never planned on being in the spotlight for anything in my life; I actually prefer to hide out socially, only to be seen intimately emotionally. I’m complicated, I know. But now that I’m a few years deep on this unexpected side quest journey, Marissa as the “be kind” social media therapist is a pretty amazing gig. If my legacy is one of an empathic soul who spread love, kindness, acceptance, and compassion, that’s a lived experience that I can be proud of.

Today, someone is going to take the challenging step of contacting a therapist to seek help. A call that will result in breaking a cycle of pain and dysfunction for the family members behind them. And that is what bravery looks like. ❤️
