The Journey to Massage.
I would say my massage journey began roughly 6 years ago but the seed was truly planted when I was 8 years old. My mom thought my massages were so good she asked me to rub the youth pastors feet! Fast forward 10 years and my new desire was to become a nail technician. I was young and creative and had an eye for detail. I left the university setting after completing one year of pre-nursing courses, realizing that just wasn’t the path for me. I went on to work random jobs for a few years before accepting the fact that I needed to grow up and have a more permanent career.
I graduated from The Academy of Hair Design(Springfield MO) in September of 2014 and shortly thereafter got my license in manicuring. I always sought to give every client in my chair a truly pampering experience, paying particularly close attention to the massage during their manicures and pedicures. It wasn’t until 2016 that I received my first professional massage. (Thanks to my then boyfriend, now husband, Shawn.) After we married in 2017 I relocated to Kansas City, MO to be with him. My first job here was in a spa, where the massage was one of the most important parts of the mani/pedi experience. I received many compliments on my massage abilities, some clients even went to the extent to say they would like to have a full body massage done by me. The now 17 year old seed was constantly being watered.
The start of 2018 came with unsettling medical news, that left my future plans unknown. After stressing for about 6 months I decided to take matters into my own hands and take on something I knew I had always wanted. It was kind of a “if not now, then when?” situation. Along with the help of Shawn, and after lots of research and prayer, I enrolled at Wellspring School of Allied Health. Extensive classes in technique, anatomy, and physiology seemed to just come naturally. I completed my massage education in September of 2019.
I now have my dream job at a high-end spa and I still continue to do nails on the side. I am excited to venture into mobile massages. Can you think of anything more convenient than receiving a relaxing massage treatment in the comfort of your own home? I have very high hopes for this next step in my journey. Peace and blessings -- Stephanie.
