This 1959 Cadillac Fleetwood Landau hearse is certainly a sight to behold. Just look at those tail fins! Such hearses were usually custom built by companies such as Superior, Eureka, and Miller-Meteor using a Cadillac chassis.

Nora Crow was the beloved daughter of Martin Luther and Frances Belle “Fannie” Garner Crow. Born on March 9, 1876, she left them almost one year and five months later on August 7, 1877. They buried her in the sacred ground of Old White Sulphur Cemetery - a very different place from White Sulphur Cemetery which is just a short distance away and far more visible to the world. Her grieving parents marked her grave with a marble stone that Time has not treated kindly . . . a stone whose inscription begins with “Our Pet”.

Shackelfords in Selmer has selected Mariah Harrison as the recipient of their July Caregiver Award. Mariah was nominated by her husband Nathan Charles Harrison in an effort to recognize the sacrifices she has made to lovingly care for him. To quote from his nomination, “Mariah has been thrown into a caregiver role years before she should have been, yet she has tackled it with the most gentle and caring hand. Her ability to not only care for me but also our children is indescribable . . . She gives everything for me and the kids and receives so little in return . . .” In recognition of her unwavering dedication, Mariah was presented with a certificate by Selmer’s general manager, Robert Shackelford. As did Savannah’s two previous recipients, she also received a $50 gift card.

As she stood beside the casket, gazing down at this man with whom she had built a life, she noted that, from the day they had exchanged vows and she had given him that ring, he had never taken it off . . .

They had been married almost 25 years when Death suddenly took him. Twenty-five years of traveling around the country with his work. Twenty-five years of adventures and building their family and finally settling into a place they believed they could call their forever home.
