Every client is a puzzle and massage does not suit everyone. It's not just about practicing manual therapy on a table using lotion on bare skin. In my practice, I have many ways to help people with their pain and tension.
This week I used visceral manipulation to release around the liver which helped my client raise her right arm overhead. Using functional assessments, I found compression in hips and backs that when released, gave my clients relief they had been struggling with for years.
In my clinic, it's not enough to just release whatever feels tense. To truly provide relief, I have to find out what needs to be released FIRST and then activate the movement or muscle that needs attention. Then, I give the client homework to help their body heal.
I love that every client is a puzzle. My work is fun and fulfilling. What do you need help with?

This week's work highlighted the fact that sometimes you don't need a massage, you need someone to figure out WHY you're in pain.
Client came in with neck pain. Turns out, her neck was compensating for a weak low back. Released the neck and activated the low back, her pain disappeared. to the rescue!

Another client came in with inner thigh pain. When challenged, the inner thigh was neurologically weak. The problem was actually in her outer thigh. After releasing that and activating the inner thigh, the pain was gone. That same client was in PT for her shoulder. Using NKT protocol I found her pec muscles overworking and her supraspinatus underworking. The thing is, if I had worked on what felt tight, it wouldn't have solved the issue, it would have made it worse. Instead, I used and found the true cause of the pain. Releasing her pec softened her supraspinatus and I didn't even have to touch it! She was so thankful!
