Starting with a handful of volunteers in 1982, the award-winning Citizens Memorial Hospital auxiliary program has grown to more than 350 auxiliary members who actively volunteer at all CMH locations. Since that time, more than 1,500 auxiliary members have served CMH for a total of 36,000 hours a year. In recognition for their exceptional spirit and hard work, the CMH Auxiliary was selected three times as Auxiliary of the Year in Missouri, and recently received the 2014 Award for Excellence from the Midwest Association for Healthcare Volunteer Resource Professionals. The founder of the CMH Auxiliary, Lillian Hutcheson, led the auxiliary program even before CMH opened in 1982 until her retirement in 2001. In honor of her leadership and dedication, CMH annually presents an award in her name to an outstanding volunteer. The auxiliary has members that serve in many capacities - the hospital's information desk, gift shop, physical therapy department, outpatient clinics, administration, medical records, laboratory, pharmacy, medical-surgical unit, Hospitality House, and long-term and residential care facilities. In addition to volunteering, the auxiliary raises money through different fundraisers and donates that money to CMH to purchase items such as new hospital beds, a new bus for the CMH transportation system, electric doors for the hospital, blanket warmers, granite park benches, speaker systems and many other needed items. Citizens Memorial Hospital Patient Tower Opening and Department Moves

Several departments and services will begin operating in the new CMH patient tower on a staggered schedule in March and April. Some entrances and check-in locations are changing.

Here are a few key updates:
• The former main entrance is now the West Entrance
• The new tower entrance is the Main Entrance
• Cafeteria, DJBean Coffee Bar and Gift Garden are now open in the tower
• The cafeteria’s Sunday buffet returns March 29
• Main Entrance doors in the tower are temporarily closed through March 30 (use the door to the right)
• Starting March 30, the information desk and patient registration open in the tower
• New Emergency Department opens April 15
• The Birth Place moves April 19
• ICU moves April 25
• Medical Surgical Unit moves April 26

Thank you to the Bolivar Area Chamber of Commerce, our community, employees and friends of CMH for joining us for the CMH Dialysis Center ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house. More than 250 people attended the Dec. 16 event.

“This center allows us to bring dialysis expertise directly to our campus and will transform how we care for patients with nephrology and dialysis needs,” said Michael Calhoun, CEO/executive director of CMH and the Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation. “It’s truly a game-changer in the way we provide care at CMH.”

Shoe Roads Productions is coming to CMH for a two-day shoe sale on the second floor of the Kerry and Synda Douglas Medical Center, 1155 W. Parkview St. in Bolivar. Hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12.

The sale will feature a wide selection of name-brand shoes. Proceeds benefit the CMH Auxiliary and support special projects at CMH. Payment options include credit and debit cards, cash and payroll deduction for CMH employees.
