In this compassionate conversation, Cara D'Anello and Marissa Puputti, registered dietitians, join me to pull back the curtain on weight stigma, diet culture, and their profound impacts on health.

Together, we explore how these societal forces lead to disordered eating patterns, diminished self-worth, and lack of proper healthcare.

This episode underscores how weight and health have little correlation, revealing that the real foundation of wellness stems from self-acceptance and adopting sustainable lifestyle habits.

Tune in to gain insight into overcoming deeply ingrained assumptions for the betterment of society's "expectations" and profits. Sadly, if you hear something often enough, you believe it to be true.

As I have shared in previous episodes, we will use the words "fat" or "larger-bodied." For example, you can be in a fat body and accept your body. We use these words as simple descriptors without judgment. Fat is simply another adjective, like thin, and it's up to us to remove the stigma and the negative connotation that society and diet culture have created.

For those in a larger body and struggling with body acceptance, we hear and see you no matter your size.

In this week's episode on Getting Healthy Without Rules, I welcome special guest Stephanie Mattrey, Mattrey, Lic. Ac. MATCM who shares her expertise in how acupuncture is one treatment modality to support eating disorder recovery.

Acupuncture may be used as part of a multi-faceted, trauma-informed treatment approach for eating disorders. We explore how acupuncture can help regulate brain chemistry energy flow and induce relaxation to support recovery from conditions such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder.

Stephanie provides perspective as both an acupuncturist and someone who has personally experienced bulimia and the path to recovery.

Be sure to stay to the end for this week's healthy practice.
Our topics include:
* The addictive nature of eating disorders
* Understanding them as complex mental illnesses
* The role of trauma
* Combining acupuncture with other therapies, such as talk therapy and nutrition support, for a holistic approach.

As a certified health and wellness coach, I help people make peace with their plates, discover how delicious real food can be, and build mindful and intuitive practices that support whole-body wellness. I don’t create diets, meal plans, or rules. Instead, we will explore your goals and lifestyle and incorporate habits that nourish your mind, body, and soul.

If you begin by understanding what’s really motivating you, beyond the number on the scale, you’ll find that incremental, sustainable changes can yield big results. In Lisa Dahl Wellness coaching programs, workshops, and membership community, you will learn to free yourself from the "all or nothing" mindset as you take steps toward your wellness goals. Anyone can create the life they want if they let go of perfection and are willing to work for it!
