Sometimes depression ISN’T being sad, crying in the corner and listening to MCR.

Sometimes it’s numbness, or just a dull, subtle sense of unhappiness, and drinking every night to cope with it.

You might not even REALIZE you’re depressed, until you crash out, or spiral out of control.

If this sounds like you, take it from me:

It’s okay to feel unhappy… Even if you DO have good things in your life.

It doesn’t make you weak.
It makes you human.

If you wanna talk to a fellow dude who gets it, whose been there, let’s chat.

My office is a safe space, where no topic is off limits.

Relinquishing control is one of the hardest things we can do, especially when trying to get sober.

One of the reasons we started using in the first place might be as a means of coping with the things out of our control. Things like:

Grief and loss.
Trauma, and the weight of our past.
Relationships and people that bring us pain.
Feeling like a failure, or feeling stuck in our lives.

This is a prayer that I have hanging in my office — It’s a cornerstone of recovery for a lot of people in program.

It’s called The Serenity Prayer, and it’s a reminder to step back, breathe, and remind ourselves that we there are things we CAN control…

And then there are things we can’t control, which we need to surrender and accept.

Letting go of that desire to control is NOT easy. Not in the slightest.

But for a lot of people, this prayer helps a lot.

So does therapy! Let’s walk the path to recovery together.

There’s no one sized fits all when it comes to recovery.

Some people SWEAR by the accepting God element of the 12 Steps.

Other people can’t get into it.

If you’re one of those people… Don’t worry. YES, you CAN find sobriety without God.

We can instead see it as a behavioral issue, and treat it that way.

Have a session with me, and we can find what works for you!

You might say things like “I’d never steal, or sell my body for drugs”…

But what happens when it gets down to the wire, you need drugs, and are low on funds?

You might find yourself turning into someone you don’t recognize.

If you keep using, your “nevers” will ALWAYS come true.

A chemical dependence can easily drive you to that point, because using is now a means of survival.

No matter what you’ve done to get drugs or alcohol, it’s NEVER too late to turn back.

Talk to someone that gets it.
No judgement, and no BS platitudes — Just understanding and support.

The hardest part of sobriety is maintaining it in these moments.

It can be really overwhelming: You want to participate, see friends, etc. but you’re triggered and fighting internal battles, because everyone is drinking.

Ughhhhhhhh!

You gotta just be really honest with yourself: Can you handle that kind of environment? Is it good for you, where you’re at currently?

If you decide to attend that BBQ tomorrow, have a plan.

Know WHAT you’re going to do if you get overwhelmed, what coping strategies you can rely on.

Know WHO you’re going to call, and WHEN it’s time to leave.

It’s really tough. But I PROMISE you this gets easier.

I’d love to be apart of your sober network. One day, we can climb that mountain together.

June is men’s mental health month — Take the time to check up on the men in your life.

We all struggle, but it’s even harder when the world is telling you that you SHOULDN’T be struggling.

Shoving down your feelings is not strength. Suffering does NOT make you weak.

It makes you human.

We all hurt, and it’s okay.

Back to Being You is a safe, non-judgemental place to get mental health support.

You don’t have to struggle alone bro.

“Do it for her” … 😭
That episode comes up a LOT in my sessions.

We all need to be reminded of our WHY.

WHY are we going through the strife of getting sober, without alcohol or the substances we used to rely on to cope?

WHAT is our anchor? WHO are we doing it for?

It’s nice to remind ourselves.

If you’re struggling to navigate a newly sober life, I SEE you.

I’m a therapist that works in program directly — I’m someone that gets it.

Post rehab/program is a vulnerable, overwhelming time.

You’re left to pick up the pieces alone. You might not be on good terms with your family. Your friends might be users themselves.

It can feel like you’re on an island alone.

Often, people relapse because they don’t get the continued care that they need.

I’m telling you.

You cannot heal in same environment you got sick in. You need SUPPORT.

If you’re out here doing it, navigating newly sober life, and that sh*t is hard, you don’t have have to do it alone.

I specialize in post-treatment counseling. We can pick up the pieces, together.

If you think therapy doesn’t work… I get it.

You’re tired of therapists that do the LEAST, just sitting there, listening and nodding and not much else.

What REALLY happened was: You got a bad therapist, or one who’s style is so passive, that it doesn’t work for you.

Don’t write off therapy as a concept!

Because life coaching, as an alternative, is WAY different.

There’s no certification.
No training.
No board of ethics.

In life coaching, people do whatever *they* feel is best.

That could work just fine for dealing with issues with motivation.

But trauma requires professional help.

Maybe you need to try someone new. If you’re looking for an actionable therapist, comment THERAPY below.

Let’s get to work!
