At our September General Monthly Meeting held last evening, we recognized two members who were officially awarded and granted the status of “Life Membership.” This designation is granted to members with a minimum of 12 years of active service with Boonton Volunteer EMS.

Joining in 2009 as our only Youth Member at the time, Matthew Esposito, of Boonton, began volunteering on the Ambulance at 16 years old. He rode the majority of his time on Monday nights through high school while obtaining his EMT certification. He then took the helm of the Saturday crew as second in command. Throughout Matthew’s time with us thus far, he has been on our Communications and Membership Committees and briefly served as our interim President. Most notably, Matthew has been our Secretary since 2013 and has run unopposed since taking that office. Since 2020, Matthew continues to work behind the scenes to make sure our operations run smoothly, assisting our Officers with daily squad business.

Joining in 2013, James “Jim” Hodgins, of Boonton, began riding with the Wednesday night crew as a Driver/Pilot. Jim had a long history of volunteerism prior to joining us. He assisted with the building of Santa Land and the organizing of logistics for the annual Boonton Christmas Parade. Jim was also named an Honorary Fire Chief by the Boonton Fire Department. Jim served on our Oxygen Maintenance, Ambulance Maintenance and House and Grounds Committees as well as also briefly serving as our interim President. Jim also plows snow during the winter months, assisting our crews with clearing roads to get to a scene safety. Jim also assists in training our new Youth Members on our lifting and moving equipment.

Both Matthew and Jim exemplify what volunteerism is. Their commitment and dedication are an asset to our mission and a driving force of the meaning behind “neighbors helping neighbors.”

We congratulate both gentlemen on this great achievement!

On the 24th Anniversary of the 9/11 Terror Attacks, we continue to honor the fallen citizens who were injured or killed. We will never forget the heroism of Emergency Responders who paid the ultimate sacrifice protecting and serving this nation. While thousands were running out, they were running in. Many individuals put others’ lives before their very own.

🇺🇸 🗽 NEVER FORGET 🗽 🇺🇸

“The attacks on September 11th were a brutal strike meant to crash our economy, undermine our democracy and shake our ability to maintain a free and open society. It did not succeed. In the face of terror, the spirit of America remained resilient — in our firefighters, our police, our EMTs, and in everyday citizens who became heroes that day and in the days that followed,” -Commissioner Director Tayfun Selen from the Morris County 9/11 Memorial Service on Sunday 9/7

Proudly Serving Since 1938!

The Boonton Kiwanis First Aid Squad was started in 1938 and served the Town of Boonton, Boonton Township and the Borough of Mountain Lakes. At the start of 2019, Boonton Township elected to use Saint Clare's Ambulance as their primary Ambulance Service provider. We are quartered within the Town of Boonton, located directly across from the Boonton Police Department and Town Hall.
