“The good news is that effective treatments exist.”

June is National PTSD Awareness Month. Approximately 5% of U.S. adults experience PTSD in any given year, totaling around 13 million Americans in 2020. Women are more likely to develop PTSD, with 8% of women and 4% of men experiencing it in their lifetime. Additionally, veterans have a higher rate of PTSD than civilians, particularly those who are deployed to war zones.

PTSD is a mental health condition that some people develop after experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening or traumatic event. If symptoms last more than a few months, it may indicate PTSD. The good news is that effective treatments exist, but stigma and limited awareness often hinder individuals from seeking help. This is why it is crucial to share the message that treatment can truly improve quality of life, particularly for our veterans and those who have experienced trauma. 💚

As a transplant to Missouri, this underscores just one of the reasons why I love this State. Missouri doesn’t just talk about caring for its citizens. truly cares about people. The formation of the and its partnerships with both public and nonpublic organizations is a testament not only of Missouri’s heart to care; but of its wisdom and resolve to care with boots on the ground. I’ve witnessed it throughout my deployment in Saint Louis.

MBHC extends our sincere thanks to Governor Mike Kehoe for officially declaring May as Mental Health Awareness Month in Missouri. This important recognition underscores the vital role mental health plays in the overall well-being of our communities.

We value the commitment to breaking stigma, expanding access to care, and supporting millions of Missourians navigating mental health challenges. Together, we can build a future where mental wellness is a priority for all. 💚
