We are excited to deliver these 60 recycling containers to Veterans United tomorrow for use throughout several of their Columbia, MO offices. We appreciate VU's dedication to recycling and willingness to partner with our organization for collection of these waste streams. VU along with other commercial customers help provide consistent throughputs, so we can employee over 25 certified employees at the recycling center.
Of course, we also must thank Mid-Missouri Solid Waste Management District for funding this project during the 2025 grant cycle. MMSWMD grant funding has been critical to our operation for over 20 years.

To residents of Columbia and Boone County, MO:
BII drop-off centers are open to the public. With that stated, local municipalities or their residents fund the fees associated with our services. When persons outside those municipalities use these sites, those communities’ volume increases which could result in their associated fees increasing due to the frequency of collections increasing, which, in turn, may cause those municipalities to incur increased costs.
The communities served by BII don’t have access to the large-scale recycling services that existed in Columbia and are generally small towns. We, at BII, operate with a small staff, hand-sorting all materials, without aid of expensive sorting devices used at the MRF in Columbia. Unfortunately, the increased volumes from even a fraction of the 125,000 residents in Columbia jeopardizes the viability of continued services to the rural communities we serve.
Respectfully, we request that residents of Columbia use restraint during this period, follow the recommendations of the city’s leadership, and continue to landfill materials until the city develops a comprehensive plan to restore recycling services for the City of Columbia.

Excited to celebrate our fabulous employees and staff all the time, but especially during National Disability Employment Awareness Month. We had burgers and hot dogs for lunch, changed into our new t-shirts, and took a picture in front of our new digital sign.

Boonslick Industries, Incorporated opened in the old Archway Cookie Factory in downtown Boonville, MO on December 13, 1976 to provide employment for 17 men and women with disabilities.
In 1982, with the passage of Missouri Senate Bill 40, the Cooper County Board of Sheltered Services (CCBSS) was formed to administer tax revenue assessment and collection to provide services for persons with developmental disabilities.
The number of people participating in BII employment continued to grow until a larger facility became necessary. In 1983, the property and building at 1620 W. Ashley Road was purchased and became the employment center for individuals with disabilities in Cooper County.
In 1991, Unlimited Opportunities, Inc. was formed to administer and manage Boonslick Industries, Inc., Boonslick Residential Services, Inc. and other programs that provide comprehensive services to people with disabilities in Cooper and Howard Counties.
BII partners with two other extended employment centers, Endless Options Recycles in Fayette, MO and Lafayette County Enterprises in Higginsville, MO, to process and sell the commodities.
These two facilities collect various waste streams, but do not have the resources available to complete the processing or do not produce quantities that allow them to sell in truckload amounts.
These partnerships allow the two extended employment centers to receive more revenue for the work they perform, thereby keeping more jobs and jobs training available for more men and women with disabilities.
