From pioneers like Dr. Gertrude Stanton, the first woman licensed to practice optometry in 1899, to the countless female professionals advancing eye health today, women have played a vital role in shaping the industry.

It’s Women’s History Month and the theme “Moving Forward Together,” celebrates "Women Educating and Inspiring Generations." Celebrating women for their strength and leadership, their dedication to education and mentorship… we remember such influencial figures like First ladies, Abigail Adams and Eleanor Roosevelt to present day icons like Michelle Obama and previous German chancellor Angela Merkel; those who dedicated their lives to education like Clara Barton, establishing the first free public school in Bordentown; social and civil rights activists like Susan B. Anthony, Rosa Parks and Maya Angelo and so many more…all laying the groundwork and shaping the minds of future generations. As we look to the past for inspiration, we must continue the good fight and move forward together.

It’s November and there’s a feeling of thankfulness in the crisp air. Such an appreciation is felt for all of our veterans who risked so much for our freedoms that we so enjoy today. We’re celebrating Dr. Lavine Day on Monday, 11/18…so grateful for the wonderful practice that he established approximately 70 years ago. And, so thankful for this amazing community that I get to be a part of everyday.

Today, as we memorialize our fallen soldiers….we feel extremely grateful to those who laid the foundation for our freedoms which we enjoy each and every day and which were built on their incredible bravery and ultimate sacrifice. Wishing others around the world the same peace and freedoms which we can never take for granted. 🙏

Important eye safety information regarding the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th: It is crucial for the preservation of your vision and ultimate eye health to use the approved protective glasses if you will be viewing the eclipse as only ISO certified will block nearly all visible, infrared and ultraviolet light rays. It is my recommendation to air on the side of safety and view this exciting planetary event later on the news.

Solar retinopathy is real and can cause permanent vision loss. Protect your eyes!
