I met Craig Johnson at BAI's ArtPark when we first moved to Borrego Springs. I was instantly drawn to him. Goodness emanated from him. And to me, he made the perfect photographic subject. At that time, I was envisioning doing a photo book entitled "The Men of Borrego" given that there seemed to be a pervasive look in the men I first encountered in this big small town.

Craig was kind enough to agree to a photo shoot and during our visit, took my partner and I on a trip that spanned half his life. He was a beautiful man inside and out. He created a beautiful life, sprinkled with art and music, until dementia set in,

Craig passed recently. A great loss yet I'm grateful to have known him and to have had the opportunity to capture a bit of his essence through my lens. RIP, dear friend.

Overnight Lodging Now Available at YWR!

Choose from the Moksha Astral Tent or the Shakti Room at theStables, each one providing a unique experience that brings you closer to nature while still offering the amenities you've grown to love. Stroll through our contemplative garden, choose your favorite tree to sit under, or opt for the silence of our new meditation circle.

theStables houses a large screen TV, Sonos sound system, water dispenser, microwave, and coffee pot for your use, as well as a full bathroom, complete with its own hand-painted mural: the work of local artist, Robin Echo Young

Our Moksha Astral Tent comes with two very comfortable single beds, phone charger, night light, and your very own water pitcher and glasses, so you don't have to leave your space if you don't want to. The full bathroom at theStables is just a few steps away. The astral ceiling provides a view of the night's sky, when opened, or privacy when closed.

The Shakti Room, one of four stalls at theStables, is equipped with a queen-size bed, phone charger and touch lamp. This semi-opened room lets you enjoy the best of both worlds—fresh air and cozy comfort.

During your stay, you can book a private sound bath for up to four people. You can also register to participate in any of our classes and events taking place at that time.

Oh, the sweetness of rain in the desert.

I took a walk around the ranch this morning, commiserating with the plants and trees while my coffee watered down. No matter.

I’m so grateful for these moments of natural ecstasy. Nature soaking itself in, celebrating and toasting the delicate refreshments from above as the sounds of joy emanate from wildlife, large and small. It’s a happy day in the desert … for now.
