It is with heavy hearts that we honor the life and legacy of James M. Jackson, MD, a man whose influence on the medical profession and our community cannot be overstated.
For over two decades, Dr. Jackson served as the Chief of Staff at Cornerstone Hospital, not only a leader but also ensuring clinical excellence from all of the staff. As an Internal Medicine specialist, he was a pillar of stability and a driving force behind the hospital’s growth and success.
Beyond his administrative leadership, Dr. Jackson was a formidable mentor to generations of healthcare professionals. Whether he was guiding nurses, NPs, PAs, or new physicians, he took his role as an educator seriously, instilling in them the discipline and clinical intuition that defined his own career. He was truly one of the last of his caliber—a rare breed of physician who commanded respect through sheer expertise and an old-school work ethic that is increasingly hard to find.
To know Dr. Jackson was to experience a rare blend of humor and brute honesty. He never sugarcoated the truth, yet his "stern care" was always rooted in a deep, unwavering love for his patients and his colleagues. He set a standard of excellence that pushed everyone around him to be better, sharper, and more compassionate.
His unexpected passing leaves a void that will be felt in every hallway of Cornerstone. We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to his family during this incredibly difficult time - Kathleen, Kris, Erin, Blake and his cherished grandchildren – who we knew through his many stories, tales, and never-ending pictures.
Finally, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace. We imagine him in heaven now, alternating his time between cheering on his beloved LSU Tigers and finding the perfect line on an eternal green. May he always have the wind at his back and a purple and gold sunset on the horizon.
Dr. Jackson, your Cornerstone family will miss you dearly. Thank you for your decades of service, your mentorship, and for being the force of nature that we all leaned on.
