Pediatric Therapy Partners

Pediatric Therapy Partners ⭐️ TWO LOCATIONS ⭐️ 702 N. Professional Dr. Shreveport & 1041 Chinaberry Dr. Suite 100 Bossier City.

Pediatric Therapy Partners is an outpatient clinic that provides occupational, physical, speech, and feeding therapies to children from birth and beyond at our Bossier and Shreveport offices. We take a holistic approach with the children who visit our clinic to develop a plan to improve their quality of life. We are passionate about what we do and work hard to exceed your expectations. The PTP team's size means that we do not have a waiting list. If your child is struggling with physical or developmental difficulties, you don’t want to wait months to get them into pediatric therapy. At PTP, we can get your child an appointment within two weeks. If you have any questions, or would like to schedule an appointment, call us at (318) 746-1199!

As a pediatric therapist, what we do might look just like play—but that’s exactly the point. Children learn through play, and using playful, repetitive activities helps them grow in ways that feel natural and enjoyable. It’s not just fun—it’s strategic. Every game, every silly moment is a carefully chosen opportunity to build skills.

Yes, sometimes what we ask them to do is challenging. But we wrap that challenge in joy, using their strengths to work on the areas they struggle with. It may look like we’re just having a blast, but behind the scenes we’re supporting speech, motor, and social development with intention and care.

The magic of play is how it transforms work into something a child *wants* to do. It’s how we help kids go from not yet functional to confidently communicating and engaging with the world.

One of our favorite toys at the clinic is the Piggy Bank, and it's not just fun—it’s packed with developmental benefits. Every time a child drops in a coin, it counts out loud, helping build early number recognition. It’s fantastic for fine motor skills too, as little hands work to grasp and slide the coins into the slot, which helps prepare them for writing and dressing themselves later on.

This toy is also a language booster—you can model simple words like "in," "out," "open," and "close," then expand on them in play to encourage your child to imitate sounds and phrases. If you get them crawling, standing, or walking to collect coins, you’re building gross motor skills like balance and mobility. Plus, when they take turns playing with others, they learn patience and how to share space and attention, supporting social-emotional development.

With its music, colors, and movement, it holds their attention and grows with them—great for toddlers and even kids in early elementary years. Safe, interactive, and great for pretend play, it’s one of those rare toys that checks all the boxes!

Parents often wonder what the difference is between early intervention through the state and outpatient therapy. If your child is under 3 and showing delays, early intervention is typically home-based and state-funded, meaning it won’t affect your insurance deductible. However, your child must meet specific criteria in at least two areas of development to qualify, due to strict federal guidelines.

Outpatient therapy, on the other hand, happens in a clinic and is usually billed through insurance. While it might go toward your deductible, outpatient services are more flexible—there’s no cap on sessions per week, and therapists can tailor care more freely. Plus, when multiple providers like a speech and occupational therapist are involved, they can coordinate closely since they're often working in the same space. This creates a more cohesive plan of care focused on what’s best for your child’s growth and your family’s goals.

Here’s something you won’t find in most parenting books: when reading to your toddler, you don’t have to read every single word on the page. To build your child’s language, it’s actually more powerful to engage them in the story. If the book has flaps, use them! Knock on the flap like a door and ask, “Who’s in there?” It turns reading into a fun interaction. Let your toddler turn the pages, point to their favorite things, and answer simple questions like “What do you see?”

Giving your child some control over the reading experience helps build their confidence and language skills. It also makes reading more fun and spontaneous for both of you. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s connection and communication. This playful approach turns story time into a bonding moment that builds early literacy in a natural way.

Speech therapy is so much more than just helping a child pronounce words correctly. I’m Emily Watkins, a speech therapist and pediatric therapy clinic owner, and we work with children facing a variety of delays and disorders. These challenges can come from many different diagnoses. For instance, a one-year-old should be using a handful of words consistently, by two they should be combining words, and by three they should be able to tell simple stories. These milestones are key to early language development and are things we actively support in therapy.

But speech therapy isn’t only about language milestones. We also help with the social use of language—how children interact with others. If a child struggles in social settings, we work on that too. In fact, we cover everything from feeding and stuttering to expressive and receptive language skills. So when people think of speech therapy, they should think of a wide range of support that helps children communicate and connect with the world around them.

If your toddler is saying at least 50 words but hasn't started combining them yet, there are simple ways you can help them progress. As a speech-language pathologist, one of my top tips is to model two- to three-word phrases throughout the day. Use short, clear phrases about what you’re doing or seeing—like saying “big truck” while driving or “more juice” at snack time. This kind of modeling helps your child hear how words can be used together naturally.

Another strategy is to expand on what your child says. If they say “ball,” you can respond with “yellow ball” or “bounce the ball.” This shows them how to build on their words without overwhelming them. Lastly, try offering choices like “big ball or little ball?” This encourages your toddler to use more than one word when responding. These quick and easy strategies can make a big difference in helping your toddler combine words. Follow for more tips!
