Sharing a post from my niece β€
Hello Friends,
Kind of a unique post from me- I know I am not on here much and donβt interact often, but I feel this is important to share in case any one of you are able to offer support or want to help advocate on my behalf.
My uncle recently reached out that he needs a kidney transplant. If you are unfamiliar, most people are born with 2 kidneys and have the ability to donate their βspareβ kidney (for lack of better words) after going through a kidney match evaluation process where if a match took place, you would be able to donate your organ to the person in need without it directly impacting your well-being and day to day. Getting a kidney from a living donor is the best option as living organs last twice as long. The surgeries are quite safe for both donor and recipient with minimal downtime post surgery required.
If you yourself or someone you know may be interested in being an organ donor, the process is quite simple. It starts with a phone interview with a transplant coordinator that is completely confidential. You can call Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) donor line at 617-643-7193 for instructions, and let them know that you want to be considered as a donor for my uncle (specific details I can provide of course).
Whether this is something youβre interested in doing, or whether you can be an advocate and help me get the word out to others who might step forward, Iβd greatly appreciate it either way.
As a note- if financial concerns are a factor at all, everything would be paid for (including future medical directly tied to the donation if needed down the line).
I appreciate your support.
Best, Theresa
