Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
PTSD is a normal response to trauma. PTSD can occur from experiencing or being exposed to a traumatic event. Symptoms of PTSD often include nightmares, intrusive distressing memories of the traumatic event(s), distress when reminded of the event, the feeling of reliving the events, poor sleep, anxiety and panic, mood dysregulation, avoidance of stimuli associated with the event(s) and hypervigilance.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) have repeated obsessive thoughts or engage in ritualistic compulsive behavior. Intrusive thoughts can be graphic (imagining scenes of death or violence) or more banal (e.g. related to cleanliness). Stereotypical rituals include excessive hand-washing or checking that a door is locked or a stove turned off. But there are a multitude of different thoughts or behaviors that may manifest. While OCD affects people differently, the commonality is that the behaviors (or thoughts) negatively affect the daily lives of those afflicted.
Attention Deficit Disorder
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a psychiatric condition that affects the everyday lives of 9 million people in the United States. ADHD is characterized by difficulty organizing and starting tasks, failing to give close attention to detail, sustaining your attention for long periods of time, difficulty listening, being forgetful and being easily distracted.
