“My favorite part of the internship thus far has probably been seeing the unique relationships that the sports medicine department has with their patients. Young athletes and 60-year-olds alike, sports medicine is all about getting people back to the activities they love doing, so the motivation that the care team (physical therapists, surgeons, physiatrists, etc.) has to get these patients better is extremely evident. Seeing these interactions firsthand helped me realize that I want to have that long-term relationship with my future patients.”

Congratulations on completing your summer internship!

Women Sports Medicine Summer Intern Spotlight 🤩: Julia Flora is a Human Biology Major 🌲

“I really enjoyed gaining a more comprehensive understanding of anatomy and biomechanics than I’ve ever had before. Being able to visualize a joint in surgery and then connect that to the way an injury presents in ortho and PT clinic has been incredibly interesting.”

Congratulations Julia and best of luck!

Emily Pilc .pilc, one of our star ⭐️ WSMP interns this summer ☀️completed her undergraduate studies at , majoring in Neuroscience. She is currently a medical student at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

“My favorite part of the internship so far has been experiencing the collaboration of several different specialties in providing care for their patients. Several times I have seen patients move from clinic to surgery or physical therapy and watched both their physical health and attitude improve as they receive treatment and their condition improves. It is a rare and rewarding experience to see someone through their recovery. I consistently feel inspired by the knowledge, passion, and dedication of the MGH teams in rehabilitating their patients. I am more excited to go into medicine than ever before.”

We are so glad to have Emily weeks. with us the last 4️⃣ weeks! Good luck with the rest of your studies!

Did you know that women are diagnosed on average 4 years later than men for hundreds of diseases?

Women are more likely to have adverse reactions to prescription medications, more likely to die from heart attacks, less likely to receive total knee replacements, and more likely to have symptoms dismissed by doctors.

At MGH, we promote inclusive research to close the gender healthcare gap.
