A 2024 study from the Women’s Health Initiative highlights an important truth: obesity is a complex, chronic disease that can significantly impact breast cancer outcomes.

In a study of more than 63,000 postmenopausal women, those with higher metabolic scores or severe obesity were more likely to be diagnosed with — and die from — breast cancer, even when other health factors were considered.

GLP-1s may be in the spotlight right now, but they aren’t the only effective FDA approved weight management medications.

At knownwell, we offer a personalized approach to obesity care: GLP-1s are an option for patients who are both interested and candidates, but they aren’t right for everyone. That’s why we take a comprehensive approach, to ensure our patients are getting the care that’s right for them.

Your weight is only part of the picture. Body composition reveals what’s really going on: how much of you is muscle, fat, bone, and everything else that makes you, you.

At knownwell, we focus on body composition because it provides a more accurate picture of your health than weight alone, as it breaks down the proportion of fat mass and fat-free mass (muscle, bones, organs, etc.) in your body.

Focusing on improving body composition by reducing fat and building muscle can have a significant impact on your overall health, including better metabolism and reduced risk of chronic conditions.
