What is a functional medicine framework? How is it different than conventional allopathic medicine? The main differences are that in a functional medicine framework, the goal is to dig deep into root causes of symptoms/illness and help the body restore harmony through a holistic approach. In a conventional allopathic medicine framework, the goal is to suppress symptoms, mostly with medication and surgery, in an effort to treat illness and disease.

I’ve worked and trained in both worlds and there are pros/cons to each and times when a conventional medicine approach is the best choice and other times when a functional medicine approach might be the better choice. AND often times, a collaborative combo approach would be ideal for many.

These frameworks can coexist and in a perfect world that is what I would love to see and we just call it “medicine”.

Women have been gathering for centuries together and circle for healing, to share wisdom, and support each other in community. In these modern times we’ve lost a lot of that connection and many of us have felt alone. As women we have been told so many things about how we should be and how we should act and how we should present ourselves in the world… and then we do that and we think that is who we are. But as we close our eyes at night and sit in quiet alone, there is a yearning for more. A knowing that there is more.

Many of us have forget about, or lost connection with, the sacred divine feminine energy that lives and flows through all of us. That energy has been lying stagnant in us for a long time and when we begin to learn how to reconnect with that and allow it to flow freely it can be a catalyst for great healing. It can be a catalyst for allowing us to take up more space in our bodies and fully ground into present time here and now in this human experience.

This past year has shown many of us how challenging it is to do womanhood and motherhood alone. We need village and community. That is in our nature as animals. As humans. WE. NEED. EACH OTHER. When women begin gathering together in safe sacred spaces it’s an invitation for this wild juicy feminine energy to come alive again.

When we feel safe, there’s an unwinding that happens.
A release.
A softening.
An opening.

This is where the magic is. This is where the deeper healing really begins.

I’m going to be opening more group healing experiences over the next few months. REVIVE, a group energy healing experience, is starting in October and I’m working on putting together some community healing circles (in person and virtual)… AND future retreat experiences. If you want to stay in the know, make sure to sign up for my newsletter (link in bio).

Earth my body
Water my blood
Wind my breath
Fire my spirit

This weekend’s Reclaim Your Wild Retreat was incredible ⚡️ This group of women showed up fully, worked through discomfort and vulnerability, released so much heavy energy and patterning stored in the body, reclaimed their space as their own, made vows to honor themselves more fully, reconnected to nature, and remembered what if feels like to be in sacred village together.

This is what being a wild woman and embodying the energy of the wild feminine is really all about. Grounded to earth, connected to self, guided by intuition, held in community, and committed to living in harmony in a way that supports the unique desires of the spirit.

This retreat is the beginning of something new for me and how I offer my work in the world. So much more to come ✨

Cheers to all the wild women out there!

I just want to milk the s**t out of this life. I’ve been reflecting on the past few years and 4 years ago at this time I was in the deep shadows of my rock bottom. My son was 1.5 years old and the toll of untreated postpartum injuries and depression/anxiety finally took me down. While it was one of the darkest and most challenging times of my life it also gifted me the opportunity to learn, once and for all, how to fully surrender.

I didn’t want to surrender. I wanted to keep pushing. To keep doing what my overworked and hypervigilent nervous system was accustomed to…. being in a state of constant chaos and stress. That pattern was woven into me early, passed down from generation to generation without me even consciously knowing, and then reinforced continuously through the ways I interacted with life.

This was my normal. Even the day when my body finally gave out and I was laying at the bottom of the stairs sobbing and unable to move, my inner voice was like “I’m FINE… get up… keep going.”

Turns out, I wasn’t fine. This was my last hurrah before surrender took me on the wildest healing journey that rocked my world. I learned how to start unweaving these patterns from my nervous system. I learned what it felt like to actually be awake in my body and grounded in present time.

I learned that many of the ways of being, relationships and family dynamics that I thought were “normal” actually weren’t.

I learned what I needed to be ok and feel like a fully functional, joyful, embodied human which felt like both a blessing and a curse because it meant that I need to change a lot in my life.

I learned what it felt like to feel fully alive.

I slowly started to crave more. More aliveness, more joy, more experience, more freedom, more ease.

And that craving for more, has brought me to where I am today which feels exciting. All I see is possibility and potential. I want to soak it all in. Every last drop. So today I’m celebrating that ✨

Reflections from the Summer Solstice: This past year has been interesting to say the least...and at times, exhausting and confusing. Exactly 6 months ago during the Winter Solstice, as I sat and meditated on what was to come for the year ahead, I saw a void of emptiness.

I took this emptiness as a blank slate to create something completely new. An opportunity to jump into the unknown… with both fear and excitement.

As this year has provoked a lot of change collectively, it’s also stirred changed within. The past few months have called me into deeper contemplation and quiet. From that place, I decided I needed and wanted to change the way I was doing this work. I decided to wind down all my 1:1 healing clients and not run another group program during spring/summer. I needed to conserve all my energy for myself and my family.

I needed time to sit and ask “how do I really want to serve? And how do I do that while still honoring my capacity and creating from a place of integrity and purpose?”

I’ve been sitting with these questions for months and finally gained some clarity last week during the energy of the solstice while away on a camping trip. This clarity came as a feeling.

Feelings and sensation are the language of intuition and we’re often taught to bypass them with logic instead. To figure things out solely in our mind instead of from the whispers within our bodies. While both are important and necessary, I’ve found that when I lead with feeling/intuition and then sprinkle in logic, my life tends flow more freely, opportunities unfold naturally and I feel more at ease.

I’m beginning to exit the void and moving into creation mode again. Excited to share more along the way. In the meantime, I invite you to ask yourself what feeling or state of being do you want to embody? And what is or is not in alignment with that right now in your life? How have you changed this year? What needs to shift? What do you want to create and how do you want to serve? I’d love to hear, so please share more below ✨

My happy place 🌺
Happy Beltane! Today is the half way point in the season of spring. A time of high creativity/fertility. I’ll be with the plants this weekend and trying to sync with the energy of this time. I’ve been in a major void the past few months and feel myself coming out the other side ⚡️

Today is the day! This is what .mccorkell and I have been creating for you and we’re so excited to share this!

It’s time to come together as mothers to heal, to connect, to be seen, to RECEIVE.

To us, “Reclaiming Your WILD” means reconnecting to our intuition, honoring our bodies, living in harmony with nature and enjoying feeling embodied in our feminine energy.

To process the year and give our nervous systems a time to reboot. To slow it dowwwwwn. To come back into our bodies, back to the present moment, to remember our vitality and to reclaim our power.

We will spend time in sacred space together to RELEASE, RECEIVE, RECLAIM and PLAY. We’ll be guiding you through ceremonies, rituals and a powerful somatic release and reclamation workshop while allowing plenty of time for rest and exploration of the beautiful land.

Organic farm to table meals, gentle yoga, and all activities are included. We’ll be nestled in the foothills of the white mountains in New Hampshire with access to fresh water rivers/swimming holes and breathtaking hiking.

We opened registration to our private clients and mailing list on Monday and the retreat is already half full! Today we’re so excited to extend the invitation to YOU and would love for you to join us if you feel the pull. ✨Early bird registration ends Saturday and space is very limited.

Can’t wait to see you there! Link in bio to register. @ Dragonfly Yoga Barn, Studio & Retreat

Today I’m beginning an Ask Anna series. Since I became a nurse in 2008 anyone and everyone would hit me up for my opinion. I even had a neighbor once ring my doorbell at 9pm during a snow storm to ask for a remedy to ease her constipation (ahem, boundaries people! Of course I had something for her though). So instead of ringing my doorbell, I’m offering this space to ask your burning questions about anything health, wellness, intuition, mindfulness, meditation, healing, etc.

I’ve worked in a variety of specialities over the last 12 years from public health to plastic surgery. As most of you know, my passion lives in Holistic Health, Functional Medicine and Energy Medicine.

I’ve been there for people’s first breath and their last. I’ve seen it all. Ask away!

Head on up to my stories to submit your questions and I’ll answer them over the next few days.

Motherhood and life in general has been kicking my butt lately. I’m at my pandemic edge and it hasn’t been pretty. There has been a lot about this year that has felt strikingly similar to my postpartum period. Isolation, anxiety, inconsistent/not enough childcare, and the agonizing feeling of WHAT THE F*$k happened to my life.

What I’ve been reminded of again this year, like I was when the postpartum haze started to lift, is that we are not meant to do this alone.

We need community and village.
We need to be with other women.
We need to heal together.
We need to nurture ALL the parts of ourselves.
We need to let out our WILD.

And we need a damn break to make this all happen.

Next week I have a special announcement about a secret something that I’ve been creating. I can’t wait to tell you about it. I’ll be sharing it first to my mailing list only so make sure to sign up for my newsletter if you want to be in the know. Link in my bio.

Can’t wait. I can see the light!

Plants make me happy 🪴Almost every room in my house has a plant. They not only help purify the air, but they enhance the energy of my space. I remember back in NP school reading studies about bringing greenery into the hospital setting and how patient outcomes improved. Less depression, quicker recovery times, improved immune function.

Just another reminder that nature is medicine.

How can you reconnect with this medicine this weekend?

Maybe turn off the screens, go for a walk in the woods, repot your plants… or bring home some new house plants. [Pro tip: My favorite house plant - the snake plant. Super easy to care for and doesn’t need much light or water. Also known for it’s super air purifying qualities].

I used to think that art was a waste of time. I lived so much in my practical and linear mind. Through my medical training I was groomed to think, behave and view the world like a scientist. And there is nothing wrong with that, it just didn’t allow for much flow.

We need balance. We need both structure and fluidity. When this masculine and feminine energy is balanced it creates an inner alchemy within us.

Through my own healing I began to explore art as a therapeutic outlet. I started making things with my hands. I dusted my camera off the shelf and started to view the world a bit differently. Being in creative space is being in flow state.

I started to feel different.
I felt more free.
I learned to tap into a different part of my brain.
My intuition was amplified x 100.

I found a way to access joy.
I felt alive.

I used to think art was a waste of time and now I realize it’s the gateway to productivity.

How are you inviting in more fluidity and flow state into your days and way of being? When is the last time you felt pure joy? What are some ways you can engage in art and creative space this weekend? ✨Tell me below.

You might want to save this for reference…
Here in New England we’re rolling into the transition of spring. A few thoughts for giving yourself a little bit of extra support during this season change.

Energetically and physically, this time is all about waking back up from the winter’s hibernation, clearing and bringing more vitality into our body. Inviting in more conscious movement, cleansing breath work and meditation to spark your life force can help you sync with the uplifting energy of spring. This is also a great time for a gentle liver cleanse/support while inviting back in more of the cooler nutrient dense fresh foods that are not typically grown during winter (think berries).

Here are my recs…

Movement:
- The Class by Taryn Toomey
- Yoga with (she has a virtual Sunday series coming up that looks amazing)

Breath Work:
- Kapalabhati breath (breath of fire)
- Wim Hof

Liver Support: (available in my online apothecary)
-Liver Sauce by Quicksilver
-Lipotropic Complex by Integrative Therapeutics

Foods:
- Smoothies (berries with greens)
- Celery Juice (empty stomach in the morning is best)
- Fresh salads (my fav is Kale with lemon honey dressing)

Feel free to reach out if you want more clarity of details. I can point you in the right direction or give you my killer kale salad recipe 🌺

About me

Several years ago I left behind my clinical practice working in the field of Integrative Medicine as a Nurse Practitioner after hitting rock bottom with my own health struggles and embarked on a personal healing journey to discover the deeper connection between body, mind, spirit and its impact on health and wellbeing. My own curious spirit guided me to explore and learn various forms of alternative and non-western healing modalities like meditation and mindfulness based practices, yoga, energy healing and shamanic work.

In 2015 I earned my Master of Intuition Medicine® Certification from the Academy of Intuition Medicine which is a two year accredited educational program that prepares healing professionals for work in the field of Medical Intuition and Spiritual Coaching. Today I use my knowledge from my traditional medical background along with my skills in medical intuition, energy healing, and mindfulness to offer clients a supportive opportunity to embark on their own healing journey that extends beyond physical medicine. The focus on my work is to examine and heal the energetic and spiritual causes of illness and dis-ease so clients can break free from old patterns and live a more healthful and meaningful life.
