The first, second, third cousins term isn’t used in other cultures 🤔 maybe that’s why they are so tight knit and family oriented ? Thoughts?
Native American culture doesn't even have a word for cousin
African cultures also don’t use the term cousins all their cousins were considered brothers + sisters
Hawaiians called cousins siblings
The Aztec civilization terms for aunt and uncles/ cousins as the same
Most cultures don’t use the term cousins ! Your village was your parents, siblings, aunts/uncles and herbalists/spiritual practitioners (padrinos etc)
Some cultures also called older men and woman of the family (auntie or uncle) & also use auntie/uncle directed towards older men + woman who aren’t of the same bloodline as a sign of respect
The breakdown:
In Mexican and Hispanic cultures your mom’s cousins are your tías/tíos (aunts+uncles) and their kids are your cousins and then your cousins kids are your nieces and nephews....and the cycle keeps going
Bc I’m not gonna lie them titles always confused me lol like is she my aunt or my cousin? “No that’s your 4th cousin silly”
Like huh there’s math involved?
