Circadian Physiology Program at Brigham and Women's Hospital

Circadian Physiology Program at Brigham and Women's Hospital The Circadian Physiology Program focuses on basic & applied aspects of human circadian biology.

We have a particular interest in human circadian photoreception and the effects of light on the circadian pacemaker and other non-image-forming responses. Our studies include investigations of the effects of timing, duration, intensity and wavelength of light exposure on circadian resetting, melatonin suppression and the acute alerting effects of light. We are also conducting a series of applied l

ighting interventions to improve circadian rhythms, sleep and performance on the International Space Station and other NASA analogs, care homes, hospitals, and offices. This work is also being translated into architectural lighting design approaches and lighting standards. Please reach out or look at our events tab for information about ongoing studies!

These results show that supplementing ambient lighting with a high-melanopic-illuminance task lamp can improve daytime alertness and cognition. Therefore, high-melanopic-illuminance task lighting may be effective when incorporated into existing suboptimal lighting environments. http://ow.ly/p3bi50NElci
