Did you know your brain is a target organ for estrogen?
This means hormone shifts don’t just affect your body … they also impact how your brain works & feels.

Estrogen helps regulate:
> Attention (how well you focus or alternate between tasks)
> Memory (how well you store and recall information)
> Mood (how grounded or reactive you feel)
> Word finding (accessing language quickly)
> Executive function (organization, time management, initiation & follow through)

When estrogen levels drop (before your period, after giving birth, or during menopause) brain functions are impacted.

What you might notice:
🌞 Menstrual cycle: brain fog, distracted thinking, irritability
🌞 Postpartum: memory lapses, slower word recall, low motivation
🌞 Menopause: trouble concentrating, forgetfulness, mood shifts

These changes aren’t “all in your head.” It is in your brain chemistry. Understanding the link between hormones & brain health can help you better support your focus, memory, and mood at every stage of life

Dealing with a Heat Wave after Concussion?
Heat can worsen concussion symptoms like fatigue, headaches, and brain fog. Try these tips:

✅ Stay in the shade or indoors during peak sun (10am–4pm)
💧 Hydrate more than usual … your brain needs it
🧊 Use a cold compress or cooling towel
😌 Slow down: heat can drain mental energy fast
🕶️ Sunglasses + a hat = light & heat protection
👉 Listen to your body. If symptoms flare, take a break in a cool, quiet place.

If you’re recovering from a concussion, cognitive fatigue can sneak up on you fast. Taking a break isn’t lazy, it’s strategic healing.

Try a brain-friendly Pomodoro technique for cognitive pacing:
✔️ 20 min light task
✔️ 10 min full rest break (no screens, low light)
✔️ Optional: Repeat if feeling okay

What counts as a rest?
🌿 Sit outside
🎧 Listen to calm music
🧘‍♀️ Breathing or guided imagery
🍏 Hydrate or have a snack

Watch for Cognitive Fatigue: Signs include zoning out, word-finding trouble, irritability, or difficulty paying attention. If these appear, stop and take a break 🙏🏻 Your brain will thank you later

ADHD & Procrastination: It’s Not Laziness.

Ever stare at a task so long it starts to feel like a mountain? You’re not alone AND you’re not lazy.

People with ADHD often want to get things done, but struggle with:
> task initiation
> perfection paralysis
> time blindness
> cognitive fatigue

Procrastination isn’t a character flaw. It’s a brain-based response to stress and executive function challenges.

🧠 Try this instead:
— start w/ the smallest element of the task (try putting away 1 fork, instead of unloading the whole dishwasher)
— use a timer (Pomodoro style!)
— start imperfectly on purpose
— pair something you don’t want to do with a preferred activity/reward

Hi there! 👋🏻 I’m Alison, co-owner of Clarity Brain Wellness. I’ve been a Speech-Language Pathologist and Executive Function Coach for 10 years.

Outside of work, I’m happiest hiking, kayaking, or gardening. On a rainy day? You’ll find me curled up with a book.

Soo, what does clarity mean to me?
Clarity means helping others find calm in the chaos.
Executive function challenges often feel like mental clutter … disorganization & scattered to-do lists.
> Clarity is similar to the sun breaking through the clouds … everything feels a little lighter and easier to navigate
