What is Exception From Informed Consent (EFIC)? EFIC is a set of federal regulations (21 CFR 50.24) that governs conducting research in emergency settings whereby human subjects have a life-threatening condition that requires immediate study intervention when existing and available treatments are unproven or unsatisfactory, and who, because of their acute and life-threatening condition cannot provide informed consent within the therapeutic window.
