Challenging GYN exam?

We created the Institute for Pelvic Health to fill the gap in pelvic health education.

Does your office stock all 4 sizes of specula? Using an xs small speculum can make a challenging GYN exam more comfortable for YOU and your patient.

Have you considered the size of your speculum?

When I first started to practice at the federally qualified health center, we stocked only size S, M and L speculum….. I didn’t even know an XS speculum existed. Thank goodness I had a wonderful medical assistant who did all the ordering for the clinic, and she asked me one day, “How come we don’t have these smaller specula?” That was a GREAT question! (And to this day I know that my patients and I are eternally grateful to her).

She ordered a few boxes and she and I did our own informal PDSA (plan, do, study, act).

For one month, I started with the XS speculum. And most of the time, patients were ALOT more comfortable. Did the XS work in all cases? No, but it was always worth a try to start with the XS speculum.

She and I then presented at a monthly all-staff meeting, and immediately after, we put the size XS and S in the top drawer of the table and size M and L in the bottom drawer.

Every so often I sent a friendly reminder to providers and any time I had a student, we always started with the XS speculum.

The Institute for Pelvic Health was founded to provide THESE clinical pearls and so much more. This small change can make a huge difference for your patient.

We want to take a moment to highlight you and thank you for all the work you do.

You are a superhero!

You do so much to help others but who supports you? We wanted to create a space NPs could hang out in, get answers to questions they’re grappling with, find inspiration, be mentored, network with other amazing professionals, and uplevel their skills and qualifications to make an even bigger impact on their patients.

The second big reason was to create a collaborative place of learning that bridges the gap between evidence-based studies (which are so restrictive and primarily conducted on men) and what we see and know to be working in our clinical practices. We call this learning clinical-based best practices. We want you to share your own evidence-based wisdom and insights, and together we will create a substantive body of knowledge that’s currently missing in women’s health.

The third reason was to create a learning environment for you that currently doesn’t exist. We wanted to bring all kinds of women’s health experts to teach subjects to our members to make learning interdisciplinary and break down the siloed learning. ‘Stay in your lane thinking’ needs to go!

And lastly, we founded Woman NP Please because we both have daughters. We want your daughters, nieces and grandchildren to experience a level of care and wellness far superior to what we have today.

We want to know:
What do you hope to get out of this community?
What topics would you like us to talk about?
We know you have something special to share with the world - we would love to hear and have you be an expert speaker on Woman NP Please!

We can’t wait to hear from you - we’re waiting!

🤷🏻‍♀️Looking for better pt ed handouts than the ones in your EHR?

⭐️We hear you! This is one more reason why we created Woman NP Please so that you'll have patient education handouts in English & Spanish, at the appropriate literacy level that WORK! We use them in our clincial practice all the time.

One bilingual patient education handout free with your membership!

Why We Founded Woman NP Please

So many reasons.

NPS are superheroes! They do so much to help others, but who supports them? I’m not sure we have properly introduced ourselves!

I am a family nurse practitioner and a champion of women’s health. I even ran a women’s health program for a large medical institution for over a decade. For the first four years, I never thought much about the pelvic floor and the impact it has on women’s health overall, but after undergoing breast cancer treatment, I had significant dyspareunia and learned, as a pelvic floor therapy patient, how important pelvic health is. I also realized how little I learned about it in my NP training.

My lovely colleague, Melissa Hines, PT, DPT is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and is a pelvic floor physical therapist who founded one of the country’s leading interdisciplinary private pelvic health clinics in Boston, MA. Melissa is passionate about women’s health and teaching other providers how to bridge the disconnect between pelvic health, primary care and OB/GYN.

We’re both moms!

Together, we are the powerhouse behind our pelvic health clinic. Our unique interdisciplinary approach has worked very successfully helping thousands of patients. We mentor and train other women’s healthcare providers and created the Institute for Pelvic Health to provide transformative women's health continuing education.

Kegels are not always the answer.

If you have tight muscles, are you sure you want to squeeze or contract them?
Did you know that the muscles in your pelvic floor can get tight too? This is why Kegels are not always the answer.

We created the Institute for Pelvic Health to give you the tools you need to assess pelvic floor muscle tone and pelvic floor motor control so that you can create a patient education plan that works for your patient.

Are you a working mom?

We are— and look what we're working on together while juggling being working moms. My daughter Eva asked me, "Did you and Melissa Hines, PT, DPT really create your business during Louisa's nap time?" And I said- we sure did!

This is shared by my amazing business partner, Melissa:

"This all started in October 2020. Amidst 4-month-old naps and 13-year-old-cello lessons. I would call Kathy and hear Eva practicing cello in the background, Kathy providing feedback to Eva in between talking to me about how we could really spread our pelvic health passion and bring awareness to NPs practices. Our hearts are on the same mission, but I am a physical therapist, and Kathy is a nurse practitioner!

The spark of creativity always happened for me in the shower, and I joked with Kathy that I need a whiteboard in the shower. I would use the shower glass door as my brainstorming notepad. Then, I would get out of the shower, grab the breast pump for 10 minutes and then head to bed.

Our passion for pelvic health was abundant; especially with our joint experience of over 20 years in the pelvic health world. 2020 was the year of dreaming big and connecting to more like-minded practitioners like you.

We want to grow our village and connect with you. Like you, we want to spread our passion and experience to others so we can better enhance women’s health.

The Woman NP Please community is full of people like yourself who, like me, have been spreading your passion between breast pumping sessions or amidst naps, or like Kathy, have been spreading your passion between cello practice or organizing a busy teenager’s schedule.

Through this community, we want all of our educational content to be approachable. Why not get some CE in while you're relaxing on the couch with a nice glass of wine, listening to a talk about Menopausal Hormonal Therapy by a super progressive Brigham and Women’s doc. Kathy literally changed her practice the next day after listening to it. Or maybe you are nursing with your headphones in, getting the latest tips about prenatal vitamins so you can better help your patients."

Amen to what Melissa said💜

really are and we LOVE what we're creating
