From our entire community at So Every BODY Can Move, weโre excited to cheer on SEBCM Georgia advocate as she sets out to compete in the Boston Marathon on Monday, one year after her amputation! ๐๐๐ฆ
Hannah Nabors is a fourth grade special education teacher in Rome, Georgia. A year ago she was T-boned by an impaired driver while on her way to school. As part of her injuries she had to amputate her leg. A lifelong runner, she knew she had to get back. So, while still in the hospital, she set a goal to run the Boston Marathon in 2026.
However, Hannah soon realized that the prosthesis she needed to reach that goal wasnโt covered by her health insurance. As a public school teacher, her state health benefits only covered one prosthesis every three years - and anything for running was considered โnot medically necessary.โ
Thanks to success in enacting foundational SEBCM legislation in 2025 they quickly got to work to expand their bill in the 2026 legislative session to ensure Hannah and other public employees could be covered! While training for the Boston Marathon, Hannah poured countless hours into meeting with legislators, testifying at the Capitol, and telling her story.
Thanks to her and the teamโs efforts, weโre excited to share Team Georgia has now successfully enacted SB 503, ensuring teachers like Hannah are now covered under the new law!
As Hannah takes off in Hopkinton on Monday and rounds the infamous corner from Hereford Street to Boylston Street towards the finish line, we will be cheering her on every step of the way! Not only will she represent the grit and tenacity of what it takes to come back from a life-changing injury, but also the selfless fiery advocacy of a national community dedicated to bringing disability justice to all!
Run Hannah Run!!
