WAY TO GO FINNEGAN!!!
THANK YOU, FAITHFUL FINNEGAN!
Good Morning and Happy Thankful Thursday!
I wanted to take a moment to shine a light on something really special happening right here in our Fightin’ 5th District—and to recognize some amazing neighbors who are making a difference.
A huge Rep X shout-out to my good friend Nancy, her husband Peter, and of course their incredible dog Finnegan—who was accepted several months ago into the Canine Blood Donor Program at Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists in Buzzards Bay, located right near the Bourne Bridge.
Finnegan proudly gave blood—his bandana even says, “I saved a life today.” What a hero!
Many people don’t realize that, just like humans, dogs sometimes need life-saving blood transfusions—and that programs like this one are critical, especially for Police K9s and emergency cases. There’s specific criteria a dog must meet, such as age, weight, and temperament. Once approved, a sample is tested extensively before they become an official donor—and Finnegan passed with flying colors.
This is the same veterinary hospital that saved K9 Nero’s life after he was shot in the line of duty, and where we hold our annual dog blood drive each April on the solemn anniversary of the loss of K9 Sgt. Sean M. Gannon and the near-fatal injury to Nero. It’s a place filled with heroes—both human and canine.
I’m incredibly thankful for the commitment of caring people like Nancy and Peter, and for life-saving programs like this one that are quietly saving lives every day.
