All are welcome at Rogerson Communities, and we showed that in style at our All Are Welcome social event at the Peter Faneuil House on Beacon Hill in September.

More than 60 residents from Peter Faneuil and the next-door Joy Street Residence, as well as Council Tower in Roxbury and Farnsworth House in Jamaica Plain, came together for a celebration of inclusion, respect, and LGBTQ+ pride. The building’s outdoor basketball court was transformed for the event into a party patio filled with live music, courtesy of MusicWorks, and the trademark aroma of peppers, onions, and sausages grilled up by local favorite The Sausage Guy.

Civic and community leaders, including state representative Jay Livingstone and Eric Reidister from state senator Lydia Edwards’ office, joined Rogerson President and CEO Walter Ramos in offering words of inspiration and support. As Jullianne Lee, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of LGBTQIA2S+ Advancement, put it, “Pride is not just in June, it’s 365 days a year. This is what true belonging looks like.”

Rogerson will honor her with a Lifetime Achievement Award at Welcome Home, where she will deliver the keynote address.

Since the early days of his legal career in Boston, Jeffrey Sacks, partner and senior counsel at the law firm Nixon Peabody, has worked with Rogerson Communities in our efforts to develop affordable housing for older adults.

On September 29, Rogerson will gratefully recognize Jeff and Nixon Peabody for that longstanding dedication with the Charles E. Rogerson Award, the organization’s most prestigious honor.

Jeff’s passion for community-building, however, began even earlier in his life.

Jeff Sacks, partner and senior counsel at Nixon Peabody, has been a champion of Rogerson's mission and affordable housing for decades.

We are proud to announce that Katie Smith Sloan, president and CEO of LeadingAge, ​the national association of nonprofit and mission-driven providers of aging services, ​will be the Keynote Speaker at our annual Welcome Home Gala.

We will also honor Katie with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her storied career of advocating for older adults across the country.

Annual celebrations like the Adult Day Health prom, that participants can put on their calendars and get excited about, serve a crucial purpose at Rogerson.

“It’s one way that we build community, by having our own traditions. This has been a day of joy that people look forward to — there’s pictures of it up around the building from years past,” Activities Coordinator Nora Vincent shares. “And it’s a lot to live up to! You’ve got to make sure that you meet the expectation and make it a great and memorable day.”

We are grateful to have welcomed Board Member Brent Berc and his team from Boston Real Estate Collaborative for a volunteer day at our Beacon Hill properties!

“I didn’t realize how impactful the issue was going to be for me until recently,” Brent says, noting that at the time he joined the Board no one in his life had Alzheimer’s or dementia and that the housing market, while tight, wasn’t as challenging as it is today. “A lot has happened in five years — the world just seems to have accelerated. Even people with means in my life can’t afford care and housing, and so the low- and moderate-income communities have no chance unless there are organizations like Rogerson.”

President and CEO Walter Ramos addressed the Briarwood Continuing Care Retirement Community last night at their annual meeting and spoke about Rogerson's commitment to, and growth in, Worcester.

"As the population in Worcester grows, the need for affordable housing and support services for older adults grows. With that, our commitment to this city must grow. Our footprint and impact must grow. And this is where our values and missions align."
