We are in the era of chat GPT, micro credentials, entitlement and pre-recorded weekend certs for under €69. I don’t usually rant here but it’s that time of the month, it’s hotter than Ireland usually is this week, I’m in my mid 40s and my summer clothing is still in storage…
When I have to explain to “Pilates pros” what apparatus, elder, or NPCP means… when I see “comprehensive” taking on a totally different meaning… I feel the need to call it out as a 🚩
These are just a few of the terms and titles I’ve seen misused online this week. There are so many other red flags on the internet and in our industry right now. I’m not going to get into Pilates wars but this is an actual method not just an aesthetic. You either teach Pilates repertoire or you don’t. Classical & Contemporary aren’t “traditional” they are Pilates. Pilates has always had clinical, individualized, and movement progression practices. Pilates is a real thing, it’s an actual methodology. When you learn the method it doesn’t get old, you don’t need to add anything to it to make it exciting or convince people to come back. People will come back because they’ll feel and see results that make them want to return. The method itself gets deeper as our own understanding of the exercises, and our own interoception and proprioception improve. We don’t just make up a series of random choreographic choices on a mat or a reformer and call it ice skating so why call it Pilates? Our industry words and terms matter and they hold specific meaning.
Please add any terms or titles you’ve also seen misused recently in the comments.
