In January 2022, Tasha Nathan was teaching a yoga class when a sore throat caused her speech to slur.
Knowing something wasn't right, she had a series of appointments and prescriptions, which brought no relief, until a family friend urged her to seek care at Mass Eye and Ear.
While there, doctors discovered that her airway was nearly blocked and rushed her into surgery. Head and neck surgeon Wais Rahmati, MD, diagnosed her with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer in adults.
What followed was a long road. On her 30th birthday, Tasha was undergoing chemotherapy. She experienced severe side effects, but for the first time, she felt heard and taken seriously.
Today, Tasha feels more like herself than she has since before her diagnosis, with no evidence of progressive disease.
"Mass Eye and Ear is the place that threw me a life raft," she says.
