And rounding out our reintroductions, the founder of Sustain, Dr. Adam Babcock.

While he might not be as present on this page lately (this will be changing!), he is behind the scenes making sure we move closer to the mission of Sustain.

Sustain was founded on the ideals of empowerment above all else. Giving patients and clients the clarity, education, and tools they needed to take ownership of their health. We noticed a growing trend of distrust, and treatment that didn’t match the goals and needs of patients seeking healthcare.

Our treatment approach is based on meeting patients where they are, and providing a clear path to where they want to be. Care looks at patients as the whole human they are, and builds a plan to match.

As we have brought both Dr. Adam and Dr. Zach on, this approach has only amplified and broadened, and we look forward to this model shifting healthcare for the better.

Outside of Sustain, you can find Adam finding any way to stay moving or searching for new craft beers, usually accompanied by his son Miles, wife Brea, and Bernese, Reuben.

Looking forward to growing with all of you.

Adam

Next up we are reintroducing Dr. Zach Schwarz, another one of our performance PT’s here at Sustain.

Zach joined us from the NHL, and has found a great footing adapting those tools to helping the everyday athletes of Boston.

“My practice incorporates principles of a sports performance model with each client, centering my care on individual progress and helping them achieve specific markers that reflect improved readiness for the activities that matter most to them. Whether it’s enhancing athletic performance, preventing injuries, or improving overall fitness, my approach is always tailored to meet the unique needs of each person. I believe in creating customized plans that empower my clients to push beyond their limits and see meaningful results.

Having had the opportunity to work in various high-level athletic settings, I bring a broad range of sports performance knowledge to my practice. This diverse experience allows me to understand the specific demands of different activities and apply that understanding to design effective, goal-driven programs. I am committed to supporting my clients in achieving long-term success by ensuring that every plan is rooted in measurable progress and a clear path forward.

Outside of my practice, I’m always focused on my fitness journey, experimenting with my own performance goals. When I’m not in the clinic, you can find me working on my golf game, discovering new restaurants, or following professional sports at both the local and national levels. I stay engaged with the world of athletic performance, which helps me connect with my clients and better understand their goals and motivations.”

Re- Introducing Dr. Adam Liptak, performance physical therapist here at Sustain!

“My clinical practice focuses on delivering exceptional, high quality, individualized care that goes beyond traditional rehab practices. My approach emphasizes strength and conditioning principles, tailored programming, and in-depth analysis of biomechanics and lifestyle factors; all while offering progressively challenging treatments without relying on passive modalities.

In my free time, you’ll find me skiing, golfing, hiking, or weight lifting. These pursuits have become integral to my professional insight, allowing me to connect with patients on a deeper level. I understand firsthand the goals and challenges you face, enabling me to offer nuanced, practical solutions for training, sports performance, and rehabilitation.

My aim is to guide you towards a sustainable, active lifestyle that aligns with your goals. Whether you’re looking to enhance athletic performance, rehab short or long term injuries, or simply improve overall well-being, I’m committed to helping you build resilience and achieve lasting success.”

Client Spotlight:

One of the ways I track progress with my clients is through posture pictures and videos of movement patterns. I was excited to see some cool progress made with one of my clients just seven sessions into his plan of care.

While posture is not everything, it can represent the strategies we use to manage our forces in standing. It is a snapshot in time of an ever-responding system. Therefore, as force management strategies are enhanced with exercise prescription and treatment, posture can respond to the inputs prescribed.

This client came in with a partial rotator cuff tear and a history of lower back discomfort. Our first phase included strategies to regain access to more ranges of motion. My goal was to reduce the elevation of both shoulders and pull his center of gravity posteriorly. I hope to create more efficient movement patterns for him to utilize. We are now developing his ability to generate force production and absorption within these new ranges.

Photos on the left were taken before our first session.
Photos on the right were taken following our seventh session.

The big takeaways for me:

Front facing
- The client’s arms are less turned in. His trap musculature is beginning to reemerge as the shoulder blade elevation is reduced. He is not as stuck in a left lateral lean in this position.

Away facing
- Similar takeaways as the front-facing view. The scapular elevation is highlighted from this angle. His hands are much more to his side than how they sat in front of him prior.

Side facing
- His head positioning is more stacked on top of his shoulder and less ahead of them. The space gained between his shoulder blades and the front of his chest is visible. He is in less of a lordotic positioning at rest.

Intricate but meaningful details. Grateful to have clients who get just as excited about these progressions as I do. Grateful to be in an environment that allows for all of it.
