Sometimes "Exercise is good for me" is not sufficient motivation. It's ability to change your perception helps. In a bad mood? …take a walk!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Most of us know that regular exercise can reduce your risk of cancer and heart disease, prevent weight gain, improve sleep, and even boost brainpower. But a new study suggests that exercise can literally change how you see the wo...

Stress Reduction as the Fountain of Youth
This is such a refreshing concept! Using the stress relievers in my book will help keep me forever young! http://womensbrainhealth.org/thinktank/stress-reduction-may-be-modern-fountain-of-youth/

Doing something positive will help turn your mood around. When you smile, your body relaxes. When you experience human touch and interaction, it eases tension in your body.

It is easy to get distracted by your own anxiety/worry. However, helping someone else not only feels good to them, it also is a great way to relax and improve your own mood.

Try it! There is a reason "random acts of kindness" provide good feelings for those that give, receive and even for those that hear about the kindness.

A smile or laughter is an easy way to make others feel better- smiles are infectious. You laugh or smile and others smile with you. It is a great way to move from stress to calm.

It's funny how life throws us what we most need to learn.

I've always been very independent and don't like to ask for help. Having surgery forced me to ask for help and get used to receiving it. Accept the gift!

Other examples:
You need to learn to speak up- you have a bully at work or in your life.
You need to learn to set limits-learn to say no…life throws you lots of things at once/lots of demanding people.
…the possibilities are endless.

When you find yourself in a difficult situation or repeating patterns, ask yourself what you need to learn from them.

As children we knew the secrets to relaxation: Now is the time for you to rediscover them. Yoda, from Star Wars said it best:

“Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.”

All the long-term goals I’ve achieved, I set out to “Do”. Becoming a nurse practitioner, integrative nurse coach or even writing a book were ideas that could not be extinguished. “Try” and “Do Not” were not options. The need to “Do” led me through, above, and around all obstacles. Saying “I will try” gives you an excuse for when you fail: “I tried.” Isn’t it better to know you took all the steps necessary and achieved your goal?

When you set short-term or long-term goals for yourself commit to “Do” instead of “Try”. Make sure your reason to “do” is a light that cannot be extinguished.

Is it necessary to check your cell phone all the time? Respond to work emails, issues, and text while out on vacation? What happened to being fully present and enjoying what you are doing?

I performed a speech in Toastmasters on Monday night about Worry.
Today I was walking outside and saw this quote:

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.
It's learning how to dance in the rain!
We cannot direct the wind but we can adjust the sails.

I am a strong supporter of meditation, especially for stress management.

While preparing for overseas deployment with the U.S. Marines last year, Staff Sgt. Nathan Hampton participated in a series of training exercises at Camp Pendleton, Calif. There were weapons qualifications. Grueling physical workouts. High-stress squad counterinsurgency drills. And weekly meditation...
