In honor of World Blood Donor Month, we’re proud to spotlight one of our incredible donors, Jim L.⭐️
Jim began donating with us in 1994, shortly after his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. Wanting to find a meaningful way to give back to Dana-Farber during an incredibly difficult time, Jim turned to platelet donation and never looked back.
Over the past 31 years, Jim has donated an incredible 468 times, equating to more than 58 gallons of whole blood.
Earlier this week, Jim stopped by the donor center to announce his retirement from platelet donations and left us a heartfelt farewell letter:
“To all my friends at the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center:
468 platelet donations, over more than 31 years, good times. But as the old cliché goes, “good times don’t last forever,” and unfortunately, that is true for my last string of platelet donations.
Good times indeed, with the friendliest and most professional staff, anywhere. Occasionally in line with my donation schedule, we enjoyed fun and crazy costumes on Halloween, beads on Mardi Gras, instant lottery tickets, and sharing lottery hopes and dreams in big money drawings.
A special thank you for allowing me to be on the panel last year at the annual Breakfast of Champions with four world-renowned cancer doctors. That day was really one of the highlights of my life, and I will be forever grateful.
Thank you again as I say goodbye, and thanks for all the memories.
Love to all, Jim L.”
Jim, thank you for your dedication, generosity, and the everlasting impact you have made on the Kraft Donor Center. You are a bright light in our donor community and will be deeply missed. We hope you’ll stop by to visit whenever you can! ❤️✨
