Medically Home

Medically Home Safely enabling health systems to admit patients into their own homes.

Medically Home leadership has come together with a singular mission: to deliver patient-centric care, to the patient when they need it, in their home. At the center of this model is Medically Home's Hospital0-at-Home which provides acute medical care for a number of conditions, and a network of services and healthcare professionals assembled to respond as needed, when needed, and even in advance of being needed. Innovations in telemedicine and digital health, as well as mobile technologies, allow this powerful model to thrive as a healthier, more efficient, and more cost-effective option than traditional hospital visits and overnight stays. Together, Medically Home leadership shares a passion about evolving a level of care to a better model that includes stronger bonds between patient and healthcare provider, fewer costs, faster recovery times, and a return to a more compassionate delivery of acute level care in the patient's home.

Today marks a powerful next chapter: Medically Home has officially joined forces with DispatchHealth.

Together, we’ve built a national system that enhances how complex care is delivered—outside the four walls of a hospital and into the place people heal best: their home.

As we integrate under the DispatchHealth name, our purpose remains unchanged: to support health systems, clinical teams, and patients with technology-enabled care that puts people first.

Thank you to every team member, customer, and supporter who helped make Medically Home what it is. The mission continues—and grows stronger—from here.

On May 1, Medically Home will mark the eighth anniversary of admitting our first patient, Chuck, an event that has helped shape the landscape of healthcare in so many ways. Medically Home was created not just to be another healthcare delivery source, but to change the way that care is delivered in the U.S. and give patients another point of access to hospital care, provided in their home. We hoped, but didn't know then that this model would be foundational to establishing hospital at home in the U.S. and now after enabling home hospital for thousands and thousands of patients, we are so proud of all that has been accomplished. Happy Anniversary, Medically Home!

A great article from Bruce Japsen at Forbes described the new collaboration announced this morning between Medically Home and Siemens Healthineers:

"The collaboration to join forces is a sign a technology and new way of delivering medical care that took off during the Covid-19 pandemic is not only here to stay but has a future."

The article goes on to note increasing pressures for health systems and hospitals to reduce costs amid ongoing post-pandemic challenges. Noteworthy because the key driver for moving more care to the home is the quality of patient care that is possible in the home. Improving the quality of care and changing the site of care to the home reduces the overall cost of care, something that Medically Home and its partners continue to demonstrate. Read more here:

This article by the American Hospital Association (AHA) highlights that hospital-at-home care can happen in many home environments including this example where hospital-level care was provided to a patient living on his boat.

As we see patients struggle to access needed care and hospitals struggling to accommodate patients, providing acute care at home for about 30% of patients who would otherwise be in a facility is a great option that many patients and providers prefer.

Curious about how hospital at home care works? This recent piece tells the story of Glenn Lemon, age 63, who was able to be hospitalized at home: "The Hospital at Home program that allowed him to go home early is increasingly popular at Roper St. Francis Healthcare System and across South Carolina and the country. Patients are demanding it, officials said, and it comes with decreased costs and better outcomes."

SC patients would rather recover at home than in the hospital and expanding that care means lower costs for the provider and better outcomes for those patients.

Cleveland Clinic Florida shared key learnings about its Medically Home-partnered hospital at home program in this recent article:

"These patients had reduced readmission rates to the hospital and an improved patient experience.

'The patient feedback has exceeded the already high bar we set for the virtual hospital,” says Dr. Rothman. “Our Press Ganey patient experience scores surpassed those for in-hospital care while having similar medical illness severity levels, and the readmission rate trends are to-date significantly lower for Hospital Care At Home than the brick and mortar hospital (9.6% versus ~13%).'"
