Fall is here! It is the season of change and letting go. 🍁 In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we use the elements in nature to help diagnose and treat imbalances in the body. 🌎 The changing of leaves, the decrease in temperature, the shortening of days mirror the movement of our energy and focus inwards. Our bodies work in harmony with natural world. Three quick reminders to help maintain your health this time of the year: 📝

🍲 - Eat warm and cooked foods! As the outside temperatures drop, our bodies need less raw and more cooked foods. Soups and stews! Braised/roasted/sautéed/steamed foods are best. Lay low on the salads and smoothies!
🧣- Bust out those cute hats and scarves! Keep your head and neck warm and protected from cold and wind.
🦠 - Incorporate beneficial ingredients in to your foods- garlic acts as an anti-viral, turmeric an anti-inflammatory, and ginger for warming your center/supporting digestion.
🪄- Get regular acupuncture treatments to build your immunity as we head in to the winter months (flu and cold season!)

Caretaking is the work that all other work relies upon. Our nannies, babysitters, nurses, house cleaners, elder care aides etc. make much of the rest of our lives possible. Thanking all caretakers out there (a few days late!) for their relentless and heart-filled work. Food is one significant way that I take care of my family. Thanks to (and my hubby!) for this gorgeous box of hard-to-find produce.

Beautiful, hearty borscht! I love soups this time of the year. They are warming, nutritious and soothing for the digestive and nervous system. I added sausage from one of my favorite companies , a female owned meat company that sources sustainable meats from small farms. Buen provecho! 🍲⚡️😋

Food has a direct impact on our health. What we eat influences the quality of our energy, our blood, our cells etc. Although it is tempting to reach for more comfort food (sugar, processed snacks, alcohol etc.) during this time of uncertainty, those are the very things that create inflammation in our bodies. This virus will not disappear overnight - while we all hope to ‘flatten the curve” and for the spread to slow down, right now is a vital time for us to keep our immune system strong. We can do that through eating well, getting lots of sleep and incorporating some form of movement in to our daily lives - even if just stretching indoors.

Food is medicine. Try to focus on nutrient dense, high fiber foods- lots of vegetables, supplemented with good quality organic protein and small amounts of carbohydrates. Think of this time, as an added immune buffer. Use it to your advantage!
